Dying Monitor
« on: October 24, 2004, 10:11:00 PM »

I've had my monitor for quite a while now. It is or at least was fairly high quality. And big. So I've never thought to replace it. But now it's showing signs of the end. The screen has some sort of ghosting going on. And on top of that in the last few days I've seen a few flickers. Anyway to really test test the monitor and see how bad things are? Also, thoughts on a replacement since I'm assuming I'll need one shortly. I suppose it could be the vid card as well, but it's newer.

If you know that your video card is fine and your cables are connected securely then your CRT is dying.

Just start saving up some money and buy a new one as soon as you have enough for the one you want.

you could try plugging it into a different computer, to eliminate vidcard problems.  Set refresh rate to something high(er), try hitting degauss button.
as for a replacement, i'd suggest an LCD panel for sure, unless you're a professional graphics artist or something (those ppl dont like the colours put out by lcd's.....).

Ok, Im getting random flashes or something. I'm sure degauss isn't gonna solve this one.  ;)

As for money, it's not really an issue. I can go buy whatever I feel like. No saving required as most monitors seem to be in a decent price range.

I do graphics work at work sometimes. CAD when I take design projects home sometimes. But mostly I surf the net..... I don't think that requires anything overly special. Then again, maybe Im wrong.
