hey there guys. i had an encrypted file on my computer that i use frequently. windows then fragged on me and i had to reinstall it. the problem is now that windows is rei-installed, i cannot open the encrypted file. i have asked microsft, but they wont help me out.
can any one help me open this file?

well, how did you go about encrypting it in the first place ?

I believe that if you used standard windows file encryption, you only need to be logged in with the same username and password as was used when the file was encrypted. I have never encrypted my files before though, so I could be wrong.

well i just encrypted it by using windows. you know, right click, properties then click the box that says encrypted.

so if what u say Optimus, could i just create a new user account with the sam user name and password and see if it will open up then?

well that suckes big time. well the file is an access database.

i had a quick look at it, and it seems like i need a security certificate or something, and then it will let me open it. i got into somethign somewhere wehere you can set who can open the file. i think all you need is a vaild certificate of some type.
does this ring any bells to anybody?

I don't know, but you should ask around the forums at astalavista.com, as they do a lot of encryption breaking there.
