you gotta think about it for a second but its eaisy to see why.... Viruses do NOT INFECT your BIOS .. and your BIOS is the thing that allows your computer to POST.

Thats not completely true man. There are viruses out there that will try to wrtie 1 0 1 0 1 0 over and over into your bios. Thats the reason why BIOS makers put in the BIOS protection option that you have to disable if you want to flash your BIOS threw windows. There is even a few viruses that will try to fry your PC by changing the FSB and voltages. But you have to install these virus before they work. No viewing a web page and BAM messed up CPU.

Edit:  The barebone method is also the best test for it!

So I Unplug and check the motherboard connections (remove ram and reinsert, make sure heatsink was on right, make sure cards were in etc...) I deshocked myself before of course.... sounds like you have a papa smurf virus. That thing slows the shit out of your pc. It creates directories in windows folder that are similar to real system folders. Look out for these folders: Fonts 2, sits inside fonts folder if you have the virus, or it sits under drivers in system32 for xp, system for win 98. Make sure you get the drivers with no caps in the name.

However, it could just be something else: Ctrl-Alt-Del and look at your cpu usage history.
