At first I tried 17 (ambitious of me, I know.)  After the game crashed a few times I thought that it was likely because I had too many loaded, so I started taking some out.  Still crashed.  Took some more out, crash.  Took more out, nothing doing.  Finally I got down to 1 simple little plugin (that no-glow plugin that has been proven to work) and it STILL crashes/freezes.  Is there something I'm doing wrong?

What, no one can help?  Has this kind of problem even occured before?  Don't tell me I've got a problem that no one's ever seen before??

I'll list some other things I've done, and maybe it'll help narrow down the list of what might be wrong.  I tried clearing the cache on my xbox, reloaded the morrowind data by running the game, and then put only 1 plugin (no-glo) in the data folder, and it still froze.  I made sure to follow that guide to remove dependencies on plugins too.  I also tried loading the same plugin as both an ESM and ESP, and even tried using the original file (the plugin straight from being unzipped, before I tried removing dependencies.)  None of it seemed to work.

Can anyone think of ANY reason why this might be happening??  Seriously, I'll take ANY idea, just throw them out.  If there's no conventional reason why this is happening, maybe someone's crazy, unconventional reason will get lucky.

Other people may have a different experience, but it's been mine that the soft mod doesn't work well with Morrowind plug-ins. It's fine for running the dashboard and third-party apps, but the way that Morrowind accesses data files is so 'PC-like' that you should really be using a chip or a flashed TSOP so that you can do a full redirect of the game image to one on the hard drive. This may also depend on the version of Xbox you're running, as some BIOS revisions might not get along with directly manipulated cache files.

If you have access to a DVD burner, I'd suggest making a XISO image of the game and adding your mods directly to the disc, and seeing if that gives you a better result. As always, with a game as good as Morrowind we should always own a legal copy if we're going to be playing the game.

Have you tried running the game without mods and seeing if it still crashes? Like KKC said, it could be your softmod. My brother has no problems using it with a 1.6 box and the NKPatcher instead of a BIOS loader. If you're using a BIOS loader, see if you can't cahnge the BIOS. I know Morrowind and a few other games, like Thief 3, either crash or can't save with some BIOSes.

Both of the xbe's are in the main game directory (eg., f:\games\morrowind), one level above where you put your mods.

The XBE editing guide assumes that you'll be running the game from the hard drive rather than from the disc media. Depending on your dashboard, the game image may show up either as a subdirectory on your F: drive, or as the emulated D: drive (in place of the DVD drive.) If you're not running the game from an image on the hard drive, then you can't apply the XBE edits since you're actually changing executable code rather than just adding plug-ins.

Ok, thanks.  Got the game copied, now transfering files to the data files folder.  Standby for result...
