And More Of A General How-to Question
« on: August 08, 2005, 12:17:00 PM »

I want to know how to replace the stock textures in morrowind goty.  I am assuming they are stored in that bsa file, so do I just open that with the construction kit and replace the textures with the ones I want?

I was thinking of raring one up for backup, since i have a folder on my xbox for backing up stock files i replace with trainers and whatnot, and then replacing with textures that use the same names a'la morrowind visual pack or darker morrowind, that way if it doesn't work, i can just move that bsa file back over.

I'd just use the data files folder because it is much easier to remove files and other subfolders from this directory.  Since it functions as an override folder anyway, all the game default ones are kept in tact.  The more variables you throw out there, the higher the chances are for the game to stop working correctly.

Ok, so assuming I have hexed my morrowind and default xbe's, I can just put textures and what not in the corresponding folders and they will load?

Ok, I went ahead and tried that, and the game will load and then about after a minute it will crash and give me the dirty disc error.  Is there any way around this?  I have tried the darker morrowind texture pack and the latest visual pack, both will load, but when a dialog happens or any kind of load, bango, its dead.

Upgrading my ram probably won't fix this, right?  I have heard that it will crash no matter what when using too much of your resources.  Is there any texture pack that looks pretty good that won't kill my 64Mb?

You can resize the textures to help this.

Load them up in photoshop or gimp and resize them. Most can be resized and still look better than the stock textures.

Ok, because right now, I am running better heads, better bodies, teleport ring, oasis, bottle mod, Ben Vagaras mod, Blue Glass mod, and I retextured my gold.  and those all seem to run fine with each other.  I only had one problem with the oasis when I left it and turned around and the mass of the place I guess caused a dde, but it hasn't happened since.  I will try out your icon replacer since I don't like any of the stock icons.

edit:  Am I the only person who finds it strange that we haven't found a workaround for the 64mb limit, lol.  You would think we could find the string that tells it to use 64mb by now.

I did a search for enchant, and enchanted, and got nothing.  Do you have it in a zip?

Those are pimp, my friend, I also hate that blue swirl.  Now I am thinking about changing the texture for the enchanted stuff so it isn't so plastic looking.  There are some neat mods that change the color schema for each enchantment.
