A Mage Char. Setup
« on: May 10, 2005, 07:30:00 PM »

This is my setup - but I have only just started playing him after playing an assassin

Character Race: Breton

Class Name: Sorcerer
Class Specialization: Magic

Favourite Attribute 1: Intelligence
Favourite Attribute 2: Willpower

Birthsign: The Atronach

Major Skills:
 - Blunt Weapon
 - Destruction
 - Alteration
 - Mysticism
 - Restoration

Minor Skills:
 - Illusion
 - Alchemy
 - Unarmoured
 - Light Armour
 - Speechcraft

Doing the mages Guild and House Telvanni quests before tackling the main quest. Items that I am chasing

Felen Maryon's ebony staff (just a quick steal to get it)
Mentor's ring (Samarys Ancestral Tomb", just north west of Seyda Neen)
Boots of Blinding Speed (must have for any character)

I chose unarmoured as my aim if to enchant clothes with constant effect shield spells, and the lack of armor means I carry a lot more

Try http://www.xs4all.nl...eijen/mage.html for a good guide

I made a char with that set. The only thing i was worried about was wether to use blunt weapon or longblade.

I know theres a lot of ebony staff enchantments but theres more longblades.

Which do Yu think is better?

I can find the good longblades if I need to but then that would ruin the mage quality Im looking for.

What about some items? Are the mage guild quests rewards worth it? I should prolly not kill him since Im a mage and when he dies there goes my missions.

I think I would rather go with unarmored. Im gonna download a mod or 2 from that site.

Thanx for all yur help. Its gonna be hard using magic instead of blades.

If you want a really good Mage character then this is what I suggest you do:
Use a High Elf

Major Skills:
Alchemy (Best money Maker in the game)
Enchant (Self Explainitory)
Mysticsm (Telekinnesis is one of your best friends)
Restoration (Self Explainitory)
Mercantile (Self Explainitory)

Minor Skills:
Conjuration (This will help with Bound items such as Armor)
Illusion (Hiding Can be Crucial)
Sneak The Ability to keep consealed and and picking pockets can be a neccessity)
Security (You may need to disarm traped chests)
Marksman (You need distance while being a mage..Hand to Hand=suicide)

Your Sign should be 1 of these 3:
The Apprentice (There is a way to Counteract the negative effect)
The Mage (Self Explainitory and no drawback)
The Tower (This is great and has no draw backs) O usually pick this one when I play)

Well there you have it my rundown of a mage character

For a mages weapon i prefer an axe.  You can get a dwemer one handed axe early on in the game and you can thus still have a shield to help with low armour class.  I actually prefer to go a custom class so you can get the most needed skills as primary and secondary.  I suggest the following:

Primary Skills:
- Axe
- Destruction
- Alteration
- Illusion
- Restoration

Secondary Skills:
- Enchant
- Security
- Mercantile
- Light Armour
- Speechcraft

This way you have all the important mage skills and an extra something for character interaction and Security is very helpful early on if you can't open locks magically

All that's good for a Fighter Type Mage But not for a character that is pure mage.

The only real blade weapon a mage would carry is a knife or dagger. A mage is like a rouge...They do distance combat and are thieves.

A pure mage will get killed in hand to hand.

Get a bunch of arrows, and a bow. Go to vivec. Get on top of one of the doors. Kill an ordinator. Take his items. Use mark/recall and go to either the mudcrab merchant, or the scamp trader. Sell all the items. Lather rinse repeat. Once you have an arse load of cash go to Mournhold and find the guy who sells grand soul gems. Then go to the mages guild in caldera and get a bunch of scrolls of summon golden saint. Figure out a way to soultrap a bunch of golden saints. Get 2 exquisit rings, an exquisit amulet, and exquisit robe, an exquisit pants, exquisit shirt. pay to have them enchanted with sanctuary.

What do you get?

100% sanctuary. you will never get hit.

Then you can put all your stats on whatever magic type you wish to increase.

Alternatively you can enchant them with fortify attribute for whatever you want.

These are all good mods for a mage:
_______________________________________________________________
EBONHEART
---------
Robe Of Divine Lifeforce

This robe is Nasty and should be illegal will unbalance the game but still god for a mage
_______________________________________________________________
TEL FYR
-------
Tome Of Ancient Knowledge

This is highly useful. Places a book next to The wizard Tel Fyr. After he allows you to take it, when you set it down, it allows you to be able to create your own spells so you don;t have to keep going to a Spellmaker. I think this mod makes more sense to have int he game than most mods and this shouldn't even be a mod, this is just something that should have been allowed in the game to begin with. After all you can create your own enchantments...What happened to the spells?
_______________________________________________________________
TEL MORA
--------
Tel Mora Alchemist

I think any person into magic needs multiple amount of places to purchase goods for alchemy/spells
