Merging .esp Files With The Morrowind.esm
« on: March 12, 2005, 04:01:00 PM »

I can't seem to get a grasp of how merging something is done or what tools to use and where to get them from in order to pull this off

From everthing I have read on this subject, this is how I'm on the understanding of how merging a file is done:

1. Download a mod you want to use and open the Esp file
2. Open the Morrowind.esm file
3. You copy and paste the esp file into the Morrowind.esp file
4. You close the morrowind.esm file
5. You FTP the Morrowind.esm file to the Morrowind directory on your x-box
6. Load any game saved or not
7. Play your game and the mod will show up.

According to what I have read that this proceedure will not only allow any PC mod to work on your X-Box but it's also how it's being explaine that these are the steps that you need to take in order to pull this off.
But so far no one has:
Supplied any links for tools, or menetioned what tools are needed for this proceedure.

Now the other thing that isn't being explained fully is how to get complete land masses to work:
This is how I have understood what I have read:
1. Get a mod (Such as Sea of destiny)
2. Merge the sea of destiny.esp with the with the Morrowind.esm Following the 7 steps listed above
3. Put all the meshes, textures and the other things with it into a folder and name the folder sea of destiny (Same name as the mode)
4. FTP the folder into the Data files section of the catche drive
5. Ftp the Morrowind.esm into it's perspective area

So niw what you have is the folder called Sea of destiny with all the testures and whatever else in it on the X, Y, or Z, catche drive anbd you have the Morrowind.esm on the F or G drive in the game directory.

6. You load any game Saved or new
7. Start your game and go to the area.

Now if you don't merge the esp with the .esm then what you have now is a folder called Sea of destiny with all the tesxtures and things in it on the X, Y, or Z, catche drive inside the folder titled Data Files, and oyu have the Sea of destiny.esp inside the Data Files folder but not inside the Sea or destiny folder
So you have this:
Z/Data Files/:

Sea of Destiny (Folder)
Sea of destiny.esp

If this isn't right then people may wantt o do a better job of explaining this because this is what it looks like people are saying.

I know that Sea of destiny is huge and the probability of getting this to work may be nil. But I was wondering has anyone been able to get any land mass mods to work?

HEEELLLLLPPPPP MEEEEE!!!!!!!

Oh yeah just to inform people of why the TESDTK tool wasn't working for me...It would have been nice if someone could have mentioned that you need JAVA to run it.

I'm sorry but you lost me on this:
However, if you try to load a whole bunch of mods (too many), you must save all the models and textures (but not the .ESP plugins) to the Data Files directory of a copy of Morrowind on the hard drive or a DVD+/-R.

I do appreciate the help

That explination was far from clear

The way it is still is being explained is just like I have it above.
You are taking both the .esm and .esp files and opening them both up you are then taking the .esp contents and copying them into teh esp contents saving it and closing it. now what you have is a .ESP file MERGED WITH the .esm file
Because that's what merge means combine togther by means of placement. If that's is not what your doing then this needs to be called somting else like to stop all this confusion. What your talking about is splicing not merging.

It sounds to me you're doing almost everything right. However, by what you're saying, it sounds like you're trying to merge everything to bloodmoon.esp. I don't think its possible to merge to an Elder Scrolls Plugin (ESP) file. You need to convert the Bloodmoon and Tribunal ESMs (Elder Scroll Master file) to ESPs, which you did. Then, you need to merge those ESPs and the ESPs for your mods to the Morrowind.esm file. To merge is to combine, and the point is to combine all the modified content with the original, which fixes problems that are caused by loading ESPs separately. I hope this helps you, and thank you for apologizing to the board.
