Morrowind Goty Mods Help
« on: May 27, 2004, 01:49:00 PM »

yea yea, I know there is a big topic about mods for morrowind GOTY, but don't even link me to the topic, it's very confusing with the multiple pages, and conflicting ways to do it. I have a .esm file, icons, meshes, and sounds folders. What steps do I follow to install this on my GOTY game? (note: I KNOW it is only cahced, and not permanent) Thanks in advance.

Morrowind Goty Mods Help

well it depends on what type of morrowind you have.

Morrowind:
Place the esm, or esp into the saves directory located on the e: drive, i don't recall the id number.  Place all meshes, icons, and such into the cache drive in the data files directory.

Morrowind GOTY:
Place the entire mod in to the data files directory on the cache drive.

Beware of the types of mods that you use, you can screw you whole save game up and have to start over.  Generally any mods that add dialogue including new NPC's could mess up all sorts of dialogue across the entire world and lead to broken quests.  I have yet to have any problems with games that only add items and such.  Mods with scripts seem to work ok as well.  The pickiness seems to be only really an issue with GOTY, I recall most every mod I tried working with the original version.

Oh yeah, if you are tring to get mods that require bloodmoon or tribunal to work with GOTY you'll need to remove the dependencies for them using some sort of tool, there are a few.  Check the big topic about how to accomplish that.

P.S. this new format for the game hacking forum rocks
