That's a bummer that it may come down to hacking the ESM to get this stuff to work, but if that's what it takes, so be it. Where can one find this editor?

Zoop

Well.. its not realy so much a question of "Hacking" that morrowind.esn file... Allthough I am not enirely familiar with the difference my self, it is actualy very common for plugin creators to make plugins that are of the .esm (elderscrolls master file) variety, as opposed to the .esp (elderscrolls plugin file) type. The ability to do so, is a functionality built into the official elderscrolls construction set, and untill GOTY edition for the xbox, you where indeed able to open the morrowind.esm file in bethesda's construction set. For that matter, it may be posible to open the xbox GOTY edition morrowind.esm file with the PC GOTY construction set, I dont know though, as I havent got a copy of GOTY for pc just yet.

The enchanted editor, while not a full fledged content creation system like the official construction set, is actualy in some ways seems to allow you more extensive controll over a file.

in any event, I will try to post links to my thread at the elderscrolls forrums, and to the enchanted editor, some time soon.

Did you try to clear the cache files?
I started a new character (my old one I had saved with several mods applied, but most of the quests were done and I just wanted to start over), so there were no caching problems. I had already deleted my old saves. The GotY edition puts its save files in a slightly different location from the original release, so I didn't want the leftovers from the previous edition of the game confusing things.

I am aware that you can convert ESP files to ESM files so that they don't have any "master" dependencies, but the problem seems to be that the game isn't even trying to load the mods, rather than them being the wrong type. That is why I think it's more an issue of the default.xbe needing to be edited, rather than the main morrowind.esm file, so that it does what it did before. The loader is probably looking only for specific files when it launches (any folders that contain save games, along with the two .dat files), instead of loading everything that is in the save game folder (like it did before). I could be wrong of course.

The quest continues...

Sure - use the search button and search all forums for "Morrowind AND mods" - works very well as there are several threads on it including two tutorials I believe.

That's what i thought until i played about an hour of it, then i was engrossed in its untarnished beauty tongue.gif i love this game dude pls dont dis it!

There will be an excellent mod soon called MEMod (Middle Earth Mod). Itll be huge (very huge). There is a MEMod developer that posted on the morrowind source forums that's sure he can get MEMod working on modded xbox's. He'll release a tut when the mod is released.

This sucks I don't know why they had to change this.  Hopefully there is a simple solution but I am very glad I never moved all my loot from Balmora to the "Abondoned Flat" mod.

I have successfully gotten 3 plugins to work in goty and im sure all the other ones will work as well... heres the instructions:

Note: Ok, after further inspection, i seriously think you can skip steps 3-6...but if your having probs, do them all.

1. Download and unzip the mod
2. Put the esp file in both the GOTY/Data Files/ directory AND the cache Data Files directory
     Note: this is NOT the cache in TDATA or UDATA, mine was in X:/Data Files
3. Copy an original morrowind default.xbe to the GOTY default.xbe
4. Edit the morrowind.ini file and add lines for each mod, like this:

[Game Files]
GameFile0=Morrowind.esm
GameFile1=aire.esp
GameFile2=animal.esp
GameFile3=Mesa.esp

5. Load your copied default.xbe and load a saved game(NOTE in this screen only orig mw saves are available, but have no fear cool.gif)

6. It will load a few times and go back to title screen...from there click load and  the game you wanna play(GOTY Saves included cool.gif)

Thats it! You now are playing teh mods in the GOTY edition of MW!

Special thanks to Orochi and hammy for ideas and support!

EDIT: Plugins with meshes, textures,etc ARE playable, just create the folders within BOTH the Data Files directories
 Eg:
E:/games/MW_GOTY/Data Files/textures/
       X:/Data Files/textures/

Have fun!!!

Peace! cool.gif

Havent tried any of those yet, but i do have bittercoast sounds installed and working which needs morrowind 1.2.0722 or better. The original xbox MW could only handle v1.0 plugins, so from this i gather that the plugin checks dependencies based on the morrowind.xbe and the morrowind.esm instead of the old default.xbe

Ill post again when ive checked bloodmoon & tribunal for sure, but im 95% sure they'll work.

So far, putting it in the game's Data Files directory seems to make no difference.. it only needs to be in cache.

Do you mean an original, non-GOTY Morrowind default.xbe? If so, why?
The GOTY's XBE works just fine for me...

All I've had to do is edit the INI file, and put the esp in the cache.. Nothing else...

Edit: My only problem with this setup is.. If my cache gets cleared, I have to copy everything over again. I can't just load and go like with the original. So I don't think I would call this a complete success.. I think that some work should be done with the XBE, so that we can drop the stuff in the game's folder, edit the INI, and have it load the added stuff, like the rest.

Just my two cents...
