My Viper Install With Pics
« on: January 02, 2005, 04:02:00 PM »

So people have been putting it in as it most tutorials show.  I was not fond of it.  No room to work and also people have had to plug it directly into the printer port and its damn near impossible with the reg install.

So here goes.

1) I used some IDE cable to lengthen the 4 points on the MB to the viper.

2) I you can see the small ide cables next to the heat sink making their way to near the high speed port.

3) I used one of the slots that keep the high speed port cover in place to feed the wires through(I had to cut the plastic tab on the cover off due to wires being there naturally).

4) Heres a nice shot of the Viper and wires fed through the bottom of the cube.  Notice the tape on anything metal in the highspeed port to prevent any kind of short.

5) Tucked in.

6) A shot of it with the highspeed port cover on(notice how the BB adapter is still in.  You need that in the slot to make your own iso's thats why I used the HS port).

7) More or less all finished here.  See how much cable you have to the programmer to reach your printer port on the computer?  Also look at the marker all over my cover.  Thats where Im dremeling this SOB so I can swap and have it all together.  Its pretty flimsy without the top on.  The controller ports just pop right off.  3rd party tops are comming Ive heard.

Thats about it.  The images are only hosted for a month so save them to your comp if you want to use them later.  Just give me a mention if you want to use pictures for any of your own stuff.

*WARNING*

I just realized that this is the port the GBA player goes into. Whoops  :P

Anyway just take note that even if you pull the chip out the viper adapter it will prolly still get in the way of the the GBA player connection.

I figure homebrew should render the GBA player useless though.

thats really cool- wish i would have seen that a couple of days ago before i started my install.  i take it that the length of the wires to the mobo from chip didn't make a difference- if not i say thats great work!  and a gba player on the cube??   can be done easier with an emu on the xbox.

i am so happy to finally play my gamecube.....

El Diablo heres answering both posts

Some people have had serious trouble with the cable.  untill they got it directly plugged into the printer port it just refused to work.  Right know no one knows why.  Its worked for some and given others mad trouble.  I bypassed the cable all togther to be sure and thats where this install shines.

Yeah you can unplug the programmer from the Viper, even pulling that silver cable right out of the Viper so its not in the Highspeed port.  But its at an always on state which you can hold "X" to boot the original bios.  I dont know if that makes it so the Vipers completley off, however if you keep the programmer plugged in you can use the dips to render the Viper off all together ala Xbox modding.

Bigfoot:

It works flawlessly.  No ill effects so far from lengething the wires.

*edit*

Someone on PS2ownz brought to my attention that someone makes a GBA player that connects to the MC port.  Nuff said.
