Modding A Game Cube
« on: December 23, 2004, 09:02:00 AM »

So in Lack of a better place to throw out an idea about modding a GameCube to run linux, i thought i would post here on Xbox-Scene and see if i got any bites.

So we all know that the Game Cube is a HDD less device... or is it.

I recently purchased a GameBoy Advance RW Cartridge, and the GBA Adapter for a Game  Cube.  Now if you think about it "outside of the box", When you put the adapter on the gamecube and boot off of the GameBoy Startup disc... you can run a normal GBA game.  but with GBA RW cartridge... you can write any code you want to it...

So i just technically added a 512 mb Hard Drive to the Game Cube.

So now we have a HDD that we can basically run anything on it that we want.
Does anyone know what kind of task this would take to write somehting that would access an executable over the network... or in this case... just like an xbox... can we install a dashboard on the small rom and run it like a modded xbox?

lemme know what you think...

am i stupid or am i on to something?

it doesn't work like that.

512mbits not megabytes.

That's only like 48 megabytes really. And it can't do everything.
With the release of the VIPER I am sure we shall see some interesting developments.

but still... they make bootable linux that will boot off of a floppy

I'm just saying, it's memory that could be used and easily manipulated

You cannot run GC execuble aka: DOL with a GBA Flash cart. The only thing you can run is GBA games, unless you hacked the GBA startup disc to be read a GC program.

i'm not trying to run a dol on the GBA cartridge...  i want to run a .GBA script that connects to a server on you network... connects to a shared folder and  lists the games in the folder so you can select them

all i want to do is run a dashboard on a GBA Cartridge
