Please Help Halo Nmp
« on: September 06, 2004, 11:03:00 AM »

Patch each of the map files and put them in directories according to their name. Now start with the first map and compress it (naming it whatever was in the second parenthesis) and once your finished with that move all the compressed maps to the 'NMP' directory on your xbox hard drive.

Now take the ui cache and copy it to two directories on your pc(one marked standard and the other marked HaloNMP) patch the standard ui with the modified standard ui ppf, and patch the the halo NMP ui with the HaloNMPui.ppf

Take these two files and move and compress them and name them both ui.map Move them to your xbox putting the halo NMP ui into the NMP directory and overwriting the standard ui in the maps directory with your new modified standard ui.

Now take the default.xbe and put in on you pc twice in those two directories we were talking about (haloNMP and standard). Ok, patch the standard xbe, with the modified standard xbe PPF, and patch the other default.xbe with the HaloNMPxbe.PPF Be sure to rename that default.xbe to HaloNMP.xbe (this is also mandatory) and move both these files to the root of the Halo Complete directory.

Ok now here is what you should have, a Halo Complete directory. Inside that you should have two directories (NMP and Maps) and two XBE's (HaloNMP.xbe and default.xbe).

In the NMP directory should have all the compressed modded maps, and in the maps directory you should have all the default maps and your slightly modified ui.

Please Help Halo Nmp

so are you asking a question?

here the readme from reddogs NMp installer tutorial

__ Constructing Halo NMP v1.1 the Easy Reddog Way ___

What's the deal?
Halo NMP is great!  (Checkout SniperKilla's video at http://files.halomod...opic.php?t=8586 if you don't believe me and v1.1 is even better.)  However, setting up takes time for the experienced and is tough for the newbie.  With this package, I have automated as much as I can and pointed you to everything you need to do the rest.

One word of caution -- do everything in here.  Some people in forums have been asking for help, but they are doing piece mail patches.  You have to patch everything.  NMP 1.1 isn't a simple map switch like 1.0 was.  Do all of it; you won't regret it.  The NMP maps have to be in the nmp folder, etc...but I'm getting ahead of myself.

What you need:
* NTSC XBOX that is modded (http://www.xbox-scene.com)
* NTSC Retail version of Halo
* FTP client and the skillz to use it with your XBOX
* Halo NMP v1.1 Parts 1-3 (http://files.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=10117)
* Sparkedit 3.2 (http://files.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=2346)

Overview:
1-2) Clear out the cache and then cache the files we want.
3) Setup everything we need in a directory on the PC.
4) Patch and organize everything quickly using _setup.bat.
5) Recompress all of the maps in Sparkedit 3.2.
6) Copy the new "Halo NMP" directory to your XBOX and clear out the cache for the last time ever!
7) Enjoy... :-)

Total time: 20-40 minutes depending on the speed of your PC and the speed of you ;-).

Detailed procedure:
  1) Clear out Halo's cache by doing the following:
1a) Use boXplorer or FTP from your computer and look at x, y, and z drives until you find the cache000.map file.
1b) Delete all of the .map files (cache000-005) on that drive.

2) Cache the files we want in the order we want (Blood Gulch & Sidewinder) by doing the following:
2a) Start the retail version of Halo, and go to multiplayer -> split screen -> enter two players -> Blood Gulch -> any game type -> and start a game.
2b) Once you can move a guy, press start -> Leave Game.
2c) After the Postgame Carnage Report comes up, press A to pick a new game, and start a game on Sidewinder.
2d) Once you can move, press start -> Leave Game.  After the Postgame Carnage Report comes up, reboot your XBOX.

3) Setup the PC pre-NMP folder by doing the following:
3a) FTP to your XBOX and find Halo's cache drive again (x, y, or z from step 1).
3b) Copy cache002.map through cache004.map from that cache drive to the folder on your PC containing this README and the _setup.bat file.
3c) Find the Halo executable -- it's called default.xbe and is either under /d/ if you are using the DVD or something like /f/Games/Halo if you've already put Halo on your hard drive).  Copy the Halo default.xbe over to your PC in the same directory as step 3a.
3d) Download Halo NMP v1.1 (http://files.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=10117) and then unzip the three Part files into this directory too.  You don't need "chapel fixed (BG)(SW).zip" as this package will take care of that for you.
3e) Do the same (download and unzip) with Sparkedit 3.2 (from http://files.halomod...pic.php?t=2346)

Now you should have cache002.map-cache004.map along with default.xbe in the folder containing this README and _setup.bat.  You should also have the 17 ppf files that make up Halo NMP and a Sparkedit folder containing "SparkEdit.exe" among other things.  You do not have to download

4) Patching the cached maps by doing the following:
Run _setup.bat to construct the _cached version of the Halo NMP folder.

Now you should have a "Halo NMP" folder with default.xbe, halonmp.xbe, default.xbe.bac (just a backup), a "maps" folder with _ui.map in it, and an "nmp" folder with 14 _xxx.map files in it.

5) Recompress the maps by doing the following:
5a) Open SparkEdit.exe (you already unzipped it, right?)
5b) Open "Halo NMP\maps\_ui.map" in SparkEdit by selecting File -> Open Cache File -> selcect the maps\_ui.map file -> click Open.
5c) After it has finished loading, go to File -> Save Map as Compressed, then save it to the same filename _EXCEPT_ get rid of the "_" at the beginning of the name in the "File name" box.  Click save.  In the maps folder, you should have just opened _ui.map and then saved a compressed version named just ui.map.
5d) Do the same thing with each of the files in the "Halo NMP\nmp" folder...that is open the "_" version, and then save it as compressed without the "_".
5e) Once all 14 maps in the nmp folder have been compressed, you should close Sparkedit or the next step may not work right.
5e) Delete _ui.map from the maps folder, and delete all 14 _xxx.map files from the nmp folder.  Make sure to keep all of the new .map files that do not have a "_" in the filename.

Now you should have a "Halo NMP" folder with default.xbe, HaloNMP.xbe, a "maps" folder (1 file) and an "nmp" folder (14 files).  All of the maps should be different sizes since they are now compressed.

6) Copy the new files to your XBOX in the following manner:
6a) Open up your FTP client and open Halo's cache drive again (x, y, or z from step 1).  Delete all of the .map files (cache000-005) on that drive again.
6b) Rename the "Halo" folder (probably on your F drive) on your XBOX to "Halo NMP".
6b) Copy everything in your PC "Halo NMP" folder over to your XBOX "Halo NMP" folder overwriting default.xbe and maps\ui.map.7) Launch the new Halo and have fun.

Problems?  Check out this Q and A:
Q: "What if one of my maps doesn't work?"

A: The easiest way to fix a single problematic map is to delete that map's _xxx.map and xxx.map files from the Halo NMP\nmp directory and run _setup.bat again.  The " xxx" here should actually be the name of the original map according to the list below.  Try recompressing the resulting _xxx.map file into xxx.map again.  Clear the cache on your XBOX, copy the new version to your XBOX again and then try the problematic map.
Delete the following _xxx and xxx map files if the first map is giving you problems:
Driving Rock - delete beavercreek.map
Chapel - delete sidewinder.map
roboCTF - delete damnation.map
Snipeway - delete ratrace.map
ACDABG - delete prisoner.map
Fire the Sky - delete hangemhigh.map
Nightwind - delete chillout.map
Plateau - delete carousel.map
Vengeance - delete boardingaction.map
SkyTore - delete bloodgulch.map
Galite - delete wizard.map
FoxFire - delete putput.map
ANABG - delete longest.map

Q: "What multiple maps aren't working, or if the fix above didn't work for me?”

A: If just Nightwind and Plateau are not working, then you probably have the wrong cahce004.map/_sw_.map file.  You can open it up in a text editor and make sure that it says "sidewinder" a couple of lines down.  You can't just change it here; you need to cache the right map again.  Delete the problematic maps as listed above, clear your cache, re-cache all of the maps as listed in section 2 of the "Detailed procedure" above.  Transfer it to your XBOX and try it again.

If the whole thing doesn't work, I would recommend having a fresh go at the whole thing while reading each of the instructions carefully.  Chances are, you made one small mistake.

Additional things to try:
* Clear all of the cache drives completely (x, y, and z)
* Run Halo off of the DVD when you do the caching
* Use default.xbe off of the DVD

Wrapping it up:

Let me know in the forum if you are still having problems.  I recommend posting the message rather than a PM so that others can help you, and be helped by your problem and its resolution.

Sincere attaboy's go out to UltraMagnus, Pokecancer, Allister, Xorange, Swamp Fox, Ninja team, Vault team, and all of the other NMP contributors.  We are all heavily impressed.
