i would say yes.  jsut name the folder something different.  both games however would share the same gamesaves so make sure you dont open a moded save on the regular game

ok i've tried this....but on my dashboard under games there is only one Halo.   how could i make it show up right?

One thing that would definently work is recompressing the modded maps and making a whole new halo directory. All youd have to do then is hex edit the default.xbe with something like halo+1. just like the NMP

Also again after rereading your question. Have you tried clearing the cache files between modded and default levels. Im not sure if your dash supports this but EvoX can empty cache folders.

Make a backup of halo for regular games, then make a backup of modded halo like nmp on another disc. I have a few discs and I just swap them, makes it easier for LAN parties if you can just pop a disk in and play.

You can go with the CD meathod, or you can make a second copy of Halo on your hard drive, then use the XBE Name Changer to rename the second Halo to something like Halo Mods.
