Getting Halo Maps From Cd To Halo
« on: June 19, 2004, 07:23:00 AM »

Ok this is what I want to do:

I have a modded map that I did the pff in to lets say Cache003.map.  So now in theory I have a file on cd ready to go into Halo so I can play my modded map.  I am trying to get this done so when I have lan parties I can load modded maps into everybodies box so we can all play without the need to have Flashfxp.

Is this at all a possibility or am I having a pipedream.

Use sparkedit to open your cache file and then save it as compressed map. Then you can put that map into your halo \maps folder and burn the whole thing to a cd with the new maps. this is useful with things like Halo NMP and large patchsets. By far the easiest way.  But everyone does need to have modded boxes. It will give you a dirty disk error if they don't

OK, let me see if I understand this.  I can take sparkedit and compress the maps.  Take the Halo game from disk, I am guessing here but i would use flashfxp to do this.  Take the map I have compressed and add it to my maps folder in Halo and in turn burn it to a CD-R and have it as a regular game on my box.

Is there a turorial on this exact proceedure.

One more question, I have tried to compress a map and I waited for about 3 minutes and thought it froze up on me.  Does it take a long time to compress these maps?

Yeah, I do this all the time:
1. ftp the unmodded cache files you want to patch over to your pc
2. use ppf-o-matic to patch the cache files
3. start sparkedit (get the newest version: SEv3.02)
4. open the patched cache file
5. go to file/compress map
6. do this with all the cache files you want to put on a disk
7. use HDDloader on your modded xbox to copy halo to your xb hdd
8. ftp the whole folder containing the copied halo (ie. F:\apps\hddloader\Pxgame#)
9. replace the unpatched maps with the patched ones from step 5
10. use something like xiso manager to create an iso of the patched halo
11. burn the iso with something like fireburner or nero
12. your'e done. Just remember to delete the cache files before you switch from patched to regular and vice versa. I use HCEv.7 to do this.

oh and about the compressing map and locking up, you probably didn't have the latest version of sparkedit. the latest is v3.02. If you did have the latest, you probably didn't  get the map patched correctly. Try re-ftping your cache files and patch them over again. sometimes it messes up.
