Halo Modeling Questions

QUOTE (Pyroknight @ Nov 30 2003, 05:57 PM)
I am pretty new to the modelling thing but I had messed around with milk shape a few weeks before the injection came out. Here are my questions:

1. What is the best way to edit the models that have several different detail levels?
2. Will rotating models affect the models in game, because they are not oriented correctly when I open them.
3.The scorpion seems to only have one detail level that it uses because I edited the most detailed model and it worked from all distances. Are there any guidelines for figuring out if all the models are used?

Thanks for the help.

1. The best way that I've found to edit models that have several different details levels, is to first edit the most detailed model (aka LOD1) with the most detail you'd like the player to see.
With the second most detailed model, you can modify what you want, but not worry so much about the details (leaving out minor peices, etc).
And so on and so on. (For the lowest detailed model [aka LOD4/and so on], you can decide to only change one or two major points on the model to set it aside from its original look, or whatever pertains to what you have in mind.

2.Rotating models will not affect the models in game. The misorientation of the model when you open it is just because there are no given coordinates for the model when you open it in Milkshape. Just a weird little thing that doesn't matter at all  smile.gif . If you can't seem to find your model when you open it, right click in the textured model window, and select "Reset view". Then hold Shift + move the mouse forward/backward to zoom in/out. You should find you model sooner or later.

3. "Are there any guidelines for figuring out if all the models are used?"

Just trial and error I guess. Try editing the lowest detailed model, then the highest detailed model and check whether or not you need to edit the other models distances (aka LOD's) or if you just need to edit a specific LOD (in this case the most detailed model, like you said with the Scorpian).

Hope this helps.

For future reference, I just want to let everyone know that when you rotate the models in milk shape it does affect the model in game so leave it where it starts, unless you just rotate it back when you're finished editing.
