Hit the compress map button on HaloMapItemEditor.

I wouldn't recommend changing anything permanently.  The designers did an excellent job balancing every aspect of the game except that damn pistol.  If you change anything at all on multi maps, you can't play with others on system link.  Even taking the scope off the pistol or changing the zoom on the sniper rifle will make your system link games hang up.

But if you must change it, here's how:
1.  The game must be running off the hard drive.
2.  Find out what the name of your map is in Halo/maps/.  For example, Blood Gulch is bloodgulch.map.  This isn't always the case, as there's one called "beavercreek.map" in there.
3.  Edit Blood Gulch's cache file (cache003.map in my case) and compress it with Halo Map Editor.  You can't change the original file size or it won't work right.  Like you can change physics and stuff, but adding weapon spawns makes it more difficult.  It's possible to compress it right if you add stuff, but I'm not sure how.
4.  Save the compressed file as bloodgulch.map and stick it in F/games/Halo/Maps on your hard drive.  Or wherever it is in your case.

Personally, I compress all of the maps that I use in System Link simply because it's easier to sync all the boxes by swapping a compressed map and deleting the cache files rather than trying to figure out which cache happens to be what map.

I store all of the maps under the Maps folder in Halo, then I swap from there.  Just make sure to keep a backup of all of your original maps in case you want to switch back.

When you compress the map it does not need to be the size of the original one your are replacing.  I have replaced all my maps with new variations, the only thing you need to do when compressing the map is make sure that is divisible by 2048.  If its not your going to need to "pad" the file with some extra zero's.

Alright, I figured out how to add 0's, but what number should I get after dividing the padded file by 2048? Somewhere in the 11,000 area?

QUOTE (tweaqr @ Nov 9 2003, 04:14 AM)
why go through all the trouble of hex editing the xbe and all that just save another copy of halo in another folder ie hacked halo and edit the xbe title.

Good point. It conserves hard drive space (a gig or so from the bink video files), which is a lot. Especially to someone without an upgraded hard drive.

And decibel [HS], if you are referring to the tutorial I typed up go ahead (though spell check it, I don't currently have word installed).

:Edit: And to change the XBE title you're going to need to hex edit also, aren't you?
