You used a Hex Editor to find that code? Or a text editor. I know its the cached files though.

If you edit your cached files, and then upload them back to the drive you pulled them from, and replayed the same level, would you be able to play with your modified script? Or, if you can't, you probably need a repacker. Correct me if im wrong.

I think the game overwrites the cache every time.

Don´t think it´s for the tank, since you´re only able to take 4 passangers on it, not 6. But anyway, has anyone got any results from changing this file??

OK Well you see my first post here states that there is something very weird with halo,
Here's how to do this :
Keep the default.xbe and the directory maps with *only* the file ui.map (ui == user interface ?)
Be sure that your cache is empty XYZ. (run other games or something)
Now run halo.
when you are in the main menu, IGR.
Now find where halo has cached his files XYZ.
This is what I find amazing, even doh you only had a 14MB file in the cache directory there is 737MB of data!?!? What compression is this ? I tried to take a file from there cache000.map (284MB) and compress it in winrar using the setting best to check if it maybe was a dummy file or something but it only compressed to 200MB. All that code comes from cache000.map wich seems to come from ui.map but I have no idea how the hell you get 737MB of data out of 14MB of data. There is still alot more code from cache000.map just search for "Digital" and you will find most of it. What I don't get why is there Digital Extremes Stuff in there ? Is the halo engine an modified unreal engine ? Anyone triyed a unreal map editor ?

Btw halo doesn't overwrite *these* cache files everytime, I don't know about maps doh.

Hehe. Because all the textures, sounds, etc.. for that level, including code are all packed into those files. If you want to view those textures or anything else, I just hope we figure out what they used. But it's still fucked up packing jobs. laugh.gif

I hope they release a map editor soon.  I want to start learning how to work with these maps.

there is a map decoder out that can view images in the cached files but the quality is poor but you can see some images. If you go on http://groups.msn.com/halohacker/ you will see some images ive seen. I have seen a pic of a tree in the guilty spark level and the xbox logo in some other logo. There are loads of other pics as well u can see. Don't know where u can get it though.

And this ?

Where exactly did this come from?

And excellent point about the dropship!  Although it brings up the question, is anyone piloting the dropships?

tongue.gif . I will search up some stuff and try stuff as well. I think though that you may be able to edit it with the high end proggies such as maya. For making such maps with detail then i would think maya or other high end proggy. Although, wouldn't they use HEP (lets just use that to abriviate High End Proggy) for the models? Wasn't bungie a little rushed if i can tell cuz they came out with such a great game and little time if you think about it. It would be easy for them to maybe take an existing game map format and mess with that and build upon it. I am not a developer (not exactly yet, but i am going to be wink.gif ) so i wouldn't be able to exactly hack proggies and try to come out with something, but i will try messing with halo and hacking it... seems very interesting. I will post my results. I have good knowledge of computers so i will mess around and see what i can do. I have a subscription to EGM magazine and i remember that they had some picks of the upcoming halo and some models and it looked to be straight out of the modeling proggy.
