Unable To Find Dir File
« on: September 13, 2005, 06:38:00 PM »

when trying to insert a car into my xbox for VC i came up with this message while trying to complete step 6 on the tut. for opening gta3.img
with IMG Tool - Err. unable to find DIR file
with IMG - invalid file/location... the archives accompanying .dir file was not found

does anybody know what that means or more importantly..how to fix it?
ive tried 3 different ways to access the file.
1. str8 off the xbox HD thru ftp
2. transfered it to my pc thru ftp
3. made my xbox a network place to access the file with windows

all had the same results

some one please help :D

it is called gta3.dir, and is in the same directory as gta3.img.

just so i understand you....im following the tut and on step 6 it reads:
QUOTE
Step 6
Once you have done that open up your gta3.img with img tool 3. Press f2 and find your car.txd and car.dff, in my case I’m finding “deluxo.txd and deluxo.dff”.

so what your saying is that the file that is supposed to be opened is the dir. file not the img. file like in the tut? just want to make sure i fully understand everything
thanks.

no, you open the img, the dir just tells the game what the .img archive contains.

they also need to be in the same directory for you to open it.

gta3.img stores all the information and gta3.dir stores a direction of all of the files. GTA3 and Vice City have gta3.dir file's although in San Andreas the gta3.dir was removed. Keep the files in the same directory and open them with the IMG prog
