The Ultimate Modding Tutorial For Gta Vc
« on: May 19, 2005, 07:12:00 PM »

Sorry I took so long with this people, but I wanted to get this as thorough as I could and when you see how this is you can see why it took me so long. Thanks for being patient.

As I promised, here is the 100% completed tutorial I made on how to use GTA VC pc Vehicle mods on the X-Box. I left nothing out of this. I even added a few nice to have extras that have not been mentioned as of yet,

____________________________________________________________________

THIS IS A TUTORIAL ON HOW TO USE VEHICLE GTA VC PC MODS ON THE X-BOX.
IF YOU COME IN HERE LOOKING FOR ANYTHING ELSE YOU WILL NOT FIND IT.

If you are reading this it is assumed you already know how to
1. You can and know how to read
2. A modded X-Box
3. Have GTA VC on your system.
4. Can FTP Files to and from your X-Box to your computer, and vice versa

Now, before you proceed, If you don't have/know everything I have mentioned above
Then I advise you not to proceed. This is not a help page, so please don't flood this topic with how do I use something in here. If you do you really shouldn't be using a computer and need to be shot or take knitting classes. But in any event you should hide yourself from humanity for you will have to be the stupidest person on the face of the earth if you can't follow a tutorial that I wrote. Now that my public service announcement is over, on with the how-to.

I have checked every link and tool very thorougly, I checked them 4 times by going to the links from here by actaully going to them form this page and downloading the tools from this page I also have personally have tested everything in here on my own game,

In short I know everything here works and the only way these links wind up not working, Would be some problem that is on the hosts site and not because I posted faulty links.
____________________________________________________________
Ok I wrote this tutorial becuase there are way too many of these half explained tutorials floating around on all these pages. Don't get me wromg, all the tutorials are great and the people that made them did an extreamly good job. All I'm doing is compiling all the data into one place and adding in somethings that have not been mentioned. This tutorial is set up so that anyone to be able to use the pc mod by doing this on their own. In this tutorial you get every tool that's needed and a very basic easy to understand explination of how to do this so that you can do this on your own.
_____________________________________________________________
So lets start:
Rule number one: MAKE A BACK-UP OF ANYTHING YOU ARE GOING TO ALTERING

Now this is everything you are going to need on your computer in order to mod VC:
(I'll be using the desk top in my examples as to where to place everything)
1. The GTA VC .dir and .img files
2. All the tools listed below (See below for links)
3. Any mod you feel like using from the links supplied below
4. This readme
___________________________________________________________
Some information/facts you will want to know before proceeding
Everything on the list below is optional and DOES NOT NEED TO BE DONE it is a matter of choice
1. You do not need to use the .col file
2. You do not need to use the handling.cfg
3. You do not need to use a color file.
4. You do not need to use RW Analyze
5. You do not need to use the Colleditor

You can use the above if you feel like it. But, it will not prevent you from using a
successful mod

ONCE AGAIN YOU ONLY NEED THESE IN ORDER TO USE A MOD:
1. The GTA VC .dir and .img files
2. The .TDX file from the mod you downloaded
3. The .ddf file from the mod you downloaded
4. The default.ide file information from the readme supplied in the mod you downloaded

The above, are the only things that will directly effect the mod
____________________________________________________________

One misconception I think a lot of people have about these mods is that they think that every mod that's downloaded will work. But that is 100% wrong! The fact is that probably, 1 out of every 3-5 mods actually wind up working and having the textures successfully compressed. So this is a try as you go proccess. You will probably have more failure's than success's. So don't get discouraged.
____________________________________________________________

SOME THINGS TO CLEAR UP BEFORE PROCEEDING (Added instructions for the tools)

ABOUT THE TXD TOOL:
Ok there is some descrepency as to what is the best method for copressing textures with the txd tool:
There is the compress all method
and
There is the compress the files one at a time method.
But I can tell you from using both methods, that both ways work When the mod successfully goes through the compression proccess

There is also questions abotu the way to convert the txd file to x-box.
Do you use this or RW Analyze?
In the TXD tool there is a drop down box that has a selectable option for VC XBOX.
To tell you the truth, after the TXD is compressed, and selecting the VC Xbox and then saving it in the TXD tool is the same exact thing as converting and saving it in RW analyze. I myself just use the TXD tool to do this. (Why use two tools, if they both do the same exact thing)

Now when following the TXD tutorial (I have supplied 2 links below) Remember only go as far as the TXD tool. Because my tutorial only covers the TXD tool and nothing more. I actually want nothing to do with Anything beyond that point.
_____________________________________________________________
THE TOOLS FOR MODDING
Below are all the actual tools you are going to need. I gave instructions
next to each tool on how to get at them.
____________________________________________________________

EVERY SINGLE MOD YOU WANT TO TRY, HAS TO HAVE THIS BASE MOD INSTALLED. OR THE MODS OYU TRY TO USE WON'T WORK

Link to the tutrial and tool for Dmagics Wheel mod
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=390873
____________________________________________________________

Next We have the The TXD Tool (You will need to right click and save this):
http://www.edgefiles...D-Workshop3.zip

Here are 2 links with explicit tutorials in them:
http://www.sicmuse.com/supadodger/
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=391115

Remember, this is a matter of preference on what you feel like doing.
If one way doesn't work then try the other one. Also if you wind up with an error message, do not save the txd file. just close the program without saving it and try again. If you get an error message more than 3 times using this tool, then the mod cannot be used on the x-box, give up on it and go to the next one.
____________________________________________________________
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS TOOL:
THIS IS CRUCIAL:
When adding the .ddf and .txd files back into the img file
YOU MUST ADD THE .ddf file FIRST AND THEN ADD THE TXD FILE SECOND

Also This download is a .exe file and will need to be installed on your computer.
So just install it like you would any other program.

Next is the The IMG Tool (You will need to right click and save this):
http://www.edgefiles...imgtool_1.3.zip

Use the same 2 links provided in the txd section for the tutorials on this tool as well.
____________________________________________________________

Next we have the GXT editor tool (You will need to Right click and save this):
http://www.gtagaming...load&id=151.zip

This tool didn't come with instructions so I have written a readme/instruction tutorial:
The GXT editor instructions:

Ok so what does this tool do:
This tool allows you to edit/re-name the actual name of any vehicle you want to in the game.
Example: You can change the name of infernus so that when you get into one it says any name you want it to be in the game

How to use the tool (I'll be using infernus as an example)
1. You will need the american.gxt file from the GTA VC game directory which is located in the TEXT folder. Onto your computer
2. Open the gxt file in the gxt tool
3. Right underneath where it says table, type in the white bar infernus
4. Notice in the black section is says infernus
5. Delete the infernus in black section and type a new name in there
6. Once you have the name you want, click save, it will ask you wheer you want to save, get it where you want and click save, then wait until it says file saved.
7. Once it says file saved, then all you need to do is FTP the newly edited GXT file back where you got it from and now the vehicle you edited has a new name.
____________________________________________________________

Finally we have the page that has all the links to the placed to get mods.
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=361641
____________________________________________________________
Well that's my tutorial.

Have fun with it and let me know how you found this tutorial was it:
Easy
Hard
Informative
Non informative

Well you get the picture jsut be honest..................Now where's my film...(Walks off)

BTW COULD SOMEONE PIN THIS PLEASE..and if this needs any fixes I will add them in here as needed so keep an eye out for these in here

THANKS,

This is backwards you need to add the TXD file first and then add The .ddf afterwards

Sorry people my mistake

If someone wants to pin this, then it's probably be best to wait until all the fixes are done to this and it is re-written.

Where are the step for installing new cars?

You only list Tools and functions, not actual steps. I just ended up using Zdemon's tutorial which actually explained how to add new cars.

I know what your trying to get at...But your SOL on this one buddy (With the exception of 1) it is impossible to be, act stupid, or try to prove a point/example using any tutroials I write.
I have it set to where you can act stupid all you want but doesn't hold up in mine.

You see the huge differenc between the way I write things and others write things is this:
I never ever generalize anything I say, in any tutorial I write.
and I set it up so If I can't give you the answer I give you a link to the exact page (Not some home page where people have to look around blind) But the acual page for the answer.
and If I do have an answer i write:
Here is the answer or retareded statements such as figure it out or it'e in the readme..Instead I take the time to point out exactly where things are.

So again you are SOL when it comes to this

Yep I'll bet you did use his tutorial for this.
Because that's exactly what I told you to do. Use someone elses tutorial and one of the links in my tutorial is to his tutorial.
So whether you found it on the foruim on your own or you used the link in my tutorial for this...You still did what i told you need to do.

PWND!!!

Ok, but this STILL isn't a tutorial. There are no steps telling me what to do. A better name for this topic is XBox GTA Modding Tools.

Ok I can deal with that.

I have to redo it any way so I'll rename it that when I re-do it.
Can I use that name?
Thanks

Don't replace it. Delete the original (back it up of course) and then inject the new things.

I'm curious to know who...

You did!

You said don't copy your tutrial
I told you I wasn't going to, and all I was going to do was supply a link to yours...You didn't seem to have a problem with it at the time I did it...I even PMed you with the link to the tutrial.

You never said not to use you tutorial and you had ampel time to tell me not to as well. That's the same exact thing as giving someone permision.
So that's why I said that..Because it's the truth
