Making The Hidden Package Search Easier
« on: September 10, 2004, 02:20:00 PM »

I'm working on a GTA:VC ultimate save that starts the game with no missions done but all the emergency/pizza/taxi missions done and all the packages found.
This will be done without any cheats. I might add all robberies, unique jumps (minus the Candi Suxx downtown jumps) and rampages to a later save too.

Anyway, I've got 99 packages and not a clue which one I forgot.

Here's what I'm looking for:

1). A way to examine the save to see if it will tell me which package is missing.

2). The ability to incorporate a mod that makes the package a lot brighter/easier to find. I saw one that makes each one like the northern lights, but it was for PC. I have no experience modding VC so I don't know how easy it would be to make this mod work for the xbox.

Any help would be hot, so I don't have to start from one again.

If you're wondering, yes you can get all the packages without cheats. You Simply jump off the prawn island bridge onto a boat!

Okay, it took a while but I finally figured it out. This should help anyone who is tired of that old missing package search.

1.) Download this.

2.) In your vicecity/data/maps folder change the name of generic.ide to generic.ide.OLD (so you can restore it if you screw up or don't like it.)

3.) Replace it with the generic.ide in the zip file you just downloaded.

4.) Delete your file GTA_VC.CAP.Final file, or better, add the .OLD extension to it, too. (ALWAYS DELETE OR RENAME THIS FILE WHEN CHANGING SOMETHING IN VICE CITY, OR IT WON'T COME INTO EFFECT!)

5.) Reboot and load Vice City. There should be an aurora above every hidden package and rampage. Works great at night!

Thanks to illspirit at GTAforums for the mod.

I'll be uploaded that super-save to xbox-saves.com soon for all to share!

Edit: added link to picture

I'm not sure... The idea is to get away with it without doing ANY missions or using ANY cheats. This is possible in Vice City by jumping off a bridge, as I said before.

The reason for doing it this way is some have found their games corrupted after using cheats. My way allows all the mission to be played and has all the dirty work done for you. (Which also gives you the advantage of a complete arsenal, better health and armor, faster running, etc.)

To be perfectly honest, it's been so long since I've touched GTA3 that I don't know if I could do the same thing for it, let alone be willing to.

Tell you what, if this Vice City save gets enough attention, I'll do the same for GTA3.

It is true that vice city saves become corrupt with cheats that's why i completed VC without cheats to 100% just to get the bodyguards.
I have also completed GTA 3 100%, but with the perfect handeling cheat for the hardest ambulence mission in the world.
I would create the save my self, but I need a mod to unlock all areas to get the hidden packages - crossing bridges just isn't enough to reach the ones underground.
There is a mod that can do that, but I can't find it.

Ozy, if you can find that mod that will get me to all islands without starting any missions, I'll look into it.

Any mods that might make the abulance missions easier would be hot too.
(maybe we can switch the abulance with a sturdier vehicle like the patriot. Same passenger capacity, good acceleration, and MUCH sturdier)

For now, the GTA:VC ultimate-start save is finished and uploaded at xbox-saves. It's not indexed yet, it's under new saves.

If I could find the mod I would make the save, I just can't find it anywhere.
I think the taxi mission glitch will work with the ambulence.
If you get an ambulence and go next to a viechal you want and hold 'X'. Press Y to get out of the ambulence while still holding X. Get into the new viechal with Y and then let go of X. If done right you should have the ambulence mission in another viechal. I don't know if this works for the ambulence, but it does work for the taxi.

My vice wont load when i add that light mod...

It loads to approx. 70% then freezes..

Well.. I deleted game and copied over from the original disc.. Now it seems ive screwed up the entire game.. It only plays the videos, then goes black!

Umm... wow... Not sure what to tell you.

When modding the files, you need to do two things:

-Delete the GTA_VC.CAP.Final file.
-Make sure you reset the correct date in the dashboard.

also, make sure you back up the files that this mod replaces, so you can restore your games settings. Backing up your games with the xbox save manager or craxtion 4.0 will help too.

Your problem seems strange. A clean install should be a clean install.
