Sorry to bother you again but do you have a manufacture date for that box?

Just I thought I would be safe with 3 and now it doesnt seem to be the case. Im thinking 3 but early manufacture date = bad xbox?

Ok my data concludes.

With Sunnon Fan...

2 people with serial 2,
1 with serial 3
Probably sunon fan with serial 2.

Mix of Jan and early Feb...

Without Sunon Fan.

1 person with serial 3.
1 person with serial 4.
Probably without sunon fan with serial 4.

So 2 seems to be the definate no no. I havent witnessed a single person without a sunon fan with serial 2.

3 seems to be a mixed bag.

4 seems safer.

Feel free to post more model numbers. Does anyone have a sunon fan and serial 4?

manufacture date: 2004 - 01 - 30

its really easy to see what fan you have, just look in the back.
and it doesnt seem that loud, unless the NIDEC runs absolutely silently.

Yeah but I havent bought it yet so I can't look at the back.

Anyone with serial 4 and a sunon? Serial 4 seems the safe bet.

If you get at Crystal with the SUNON fan (witch in my opinion is a good fan), then you always can bye the Nidec fan from here: http://www.herbach.c...ode=NewArrivals

The Nidec, is the most silent fan I have herd.

I've got a SUNON fan - manufacturing date 30th January 2004, serial number...dunno (I've now checked, its a 3)

Have to say, when I got it I still had my black Xbox and thought "god, this is noisy", although it isn't that bad, unless you're going to be watching a lot of DVDs.

huh.gif Seriously? sad.gif

So it seems that ANY model number can have a sunon fan?

Dates still seem early mind. The ONLY area now not covered is a SUNON fan from a XBOX manfacutured mid - late FEB onwards.

Still it seems that i'm either going to have to put up with the noise or get a black model? mad.gif

After saying this though my local Game has got some new Cystal Xbox's in so I will have to check the dates.

Hopefully this information is helping other people too.

Any others?

smile.gif. Any way, the date/serial is as followed:

2004-02-12
4......40705

It HAS a SUNON fan as well. But again, the Sunon fan is not a bad fan, I have just tried to install a Nidec fan into mine, and it makes more noise than my old v1.1 (where the Nidec fan comes from). If it makes some vibrations noise, then just do as I have done here:

Just put some soft "rubber" in each corner (I don't know what it is called in English, but we call it skum gummi in Danish smile.gif). This will stop the most of the vibrations, and the noise will be wary much reduced. To keep the vibrations noise away, just cut the build in fan "grill", is it there the noise is coming from, and it have no effect or meaning to be there.

biggrin.gif

Im thinking prehaps just stick with the black xbox.

Still more serial numbers and dates are good so keep them coming.

Is it really as bad as people make out. I've got to remember theres a lot of modchipers on this site and they want the best out of their xbox. Still when you read people saying that the noise is imbarable and that they want to take their xbox back it doesnt fill me with confidence.

after comparing my xob with my cube, which has a NIDEC fan, it does seem that the SUNON is rather loud.
its too late for me to return it, and i'd prefer not to have MS fix it becuase i am going to mod it soon.
so what would be my best option?
the dampening with the sponge is a possibility, if the sound is pure vibrations, but if the fan itself is noisy...
would i be able to just replace it with a normal PC fan?
i'd quite like to get a glowing one if possible.
