mhm. how do u replace a dxt1 dds (none alpha) with a dxt5 dds (with alpha) ???

oh geez.. thats a tough one... cause its been a while. though i use XIG3 (xbox image grabber) the problem is you'll have to go hunting for all the required files, then its easy to get confused.

best bet is to go onto maxconsole and download there trainer engine and the DOAX trainer, which comes with a built in screenshot taker

avoid using DXT5 over DXT1 if default orginally was DXT1. though i know of 2 ways to do this. best way is to find an old app called bossafs it can prase a file for DDS headers and change them to what ever DXT you want them to. lol

though you'll have to decrease one dimension to increase from DXT1 to DXT5, cause it's holds extra info, for 16? bit trasnparenies. beisdes that if you find the program, i think the dds tool option is called transparency tune? or something after u open and right click files name in the file tree.

hope that helps. oh and the second way is more hands on with like hexediting and crap, didn't think you'd wanna hear that, so

when i want to change the xpr and want to allow a alpha it always tell me this.  uhh.gif  unsure.gif

you made the image bigger... you need to decrease its dimensions when you change it to dxt5.
but honestly theres not much reason to make it a dxt5... if you apply both transparency flags in bossafs to your dxt1 image .. you can edit its alpha

yeah
DXT1 - 1bit Alpha (Single On/Off transparency)
DXT5 - 16bit Alpha (gradation transparency -shades)

ok, when you make the image a DXT5 from a DXT1 the image must include the extra 16bit table, ok. so to compensate space, you have to make one side smaller.

example
DXT1 256 x 256 (you want to turn to DXT5, so you make) DXT5 128 x 256
"remeber to tick off the 2 transparency flags" and press APPLY in the program. thats it, hopfully the bafs prased the right thing and your file still works. also i think i have 1.2.2.0, still buggy tho. if 1.0.0.9's working for yeah, your prolly fine.

(always a good practice to make multiple copies of your work) just right drag&drop make copy of.

ah yo smile.gif  but there is one prob. i cant choose dxt5. theres only dxt1, 2 n 4. and dxt1 with alpha makes some problems.

oh, don't worry DXT4 will work when injection dxt5 textures over top. dxt4 is basically the same as dxt5
