I would like to photoshop edit my character skin to have my name (or something crazy) across his back. I know that's doable, but is it doable on Live? And if so, would anyone else see this skin or is their rendering of my character completely controlled by their own content? I can't see the program cross-loading a bunch of skins that should theoretically all be the same as the ones on the local retail DVD, but I'll let you tell me no.
your right on the money there. you'd be the only one able to see it. BUT, no mods work on live. At least not to my knowledge, nor will anyone really help to get mods to work on Live. But for system link, it would. For others to see your new skin, they need the new skin. The only info that get gets cross-loaded is the gametype and mission file for that particular game your playing.

Another thing - since I'll be copying my DLC to another hard drive, but playing it on the same box, it should work even with an unedited default.xbe, right? I will edit it to set the video mode to 480p, but theoretically it should require no edit at all if the hash of the DLC is concocted only from my eeprom.
Good point, but one i dont have a definite answer on. All i can say is you can try. but the dlc is signed when you dl it. if it uses any kind of combination of the hdd key, i'd guess you'd still have to do the contentmeta hack as well. like i said, you can try it, if it doesnt work, just add in the hack. or just do both edits at once and dont worry about it. personally my live box is my modded box, so i'm not sure how switchin back and forth between drives and signed content works. I've just had my box offline for a while trying to get an issue i had with kai resolved. Now that all works but I havent played any in awhile. Still need to get that dlc and the new stuff for splintercell chaos theory.
whats sad is blind siege should have been there from the beginning. i changed some spawns and bases on maps just so stuff wasnt "same ol same ol" but stopped playing on live because of that. Now maybe i'll get back on live and play it again. in grit siege was always my favorite cuz things could be changed to random. i'm not the "run and gun" type, so games like lms and all have never been my thing. too fast paced for this old man. i also find it disappointing that its only 1 new map, and 2 old maps. especially considering i can add the old maps myself, even though thats not the intent that ubi had.
