Doom3
« on: March 28, 2005, 05:08:00 PM »

has anyone had a chance to have a poke around with doom 3 yet?

It has the potential for some awesome mods/hacks.

Some one has remade the original doom with the doom 3 engine on the pc.

I havnt actually played is yet, but if it used the same ai etc that the original doom, and was faithful in every way except graphics, it would be sooo cool!

bleh any way....

This was something I was discussing a long time ago with the Xbox title Star Wars: Jedi Knight II.

It has the same PK3/4 - GOB file conversion structure.

This company, Vicarious Visions, converted ID's Quake III engine PK3 files into GOB, so assumingly, under the same header structure, they converted PK4 into GOB.

The GOB files should be very similar to the PK3/PK4's ZIP file structure.

Someone will crack it eventually.

Can someone please try opening a .GOB file in WinZip/WinRAR for the hell of it, and see if the pk3 zip relationship still applies.

BTW, 1337th post - I have achieved Eliteness.

alright, i figured it out, the doomlauncher.xbe does need some files from the rest of the game to launch, if you seperate the classic doom files from the rest of the game, you can launch it IF the files from doom3 are already in cache partition, if they aren't then the xbox will freeze on you

hopefully someone will figure out what dependencies it has as it would be great to seperate the classic dooms from the rest of doom3

Yeah if someone can change the header of the GOB file to the header of one of the Windows Doom 3 PK4 files, then try to open it in WINRAR.

Remember, if you can access it, that file will not work on the xbox anymore.

It may need to be resigned, just like Halo 2.

I'm really hoping this works because I have been using Radiant editing tools for 4 years now and would like to make some custom maps for Doom 3 on the XBOX.  I know it would be easier on the PC, but I think the XBOX community would appreciate it a helluva lot more than the PC community.
