Ghost Recon 2 Update
« on: March 14, 2005, 03:47:00 PM »

Unfortunately there are only two ways to use the DLC

1) Using a retail version of the game with the content downloaded by yourself from XBox live

2) Using the patched version of the default.xbe

since on the non-modded xbox, you can't use the default.xbe, you'll need to get the update from xbox live.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear

note that he said "patched" xbe.  what you need is the default.xbe from the dlc, but it needs to be patched.  after it is patched, then you overwrite the original.  you can patch it yourself or go looking for it.  you can learn to patch it yourself at this link (post number 5), http://forums.xbox-s...dpost&p=1687596

mrjkwik:

i am assuming I can open the file with any hex editor?  The stuff about about finding the checksum was a bit over my head, I will attempt with hex editor and just search for that string.  Thanks for the help, I would always much rather learn to do, than just use.  Any other helpful advice would be appreciated.  Thanks again

no, you cant copy from one xbox to the other.  when you do it gets corrupted.

any hexeditor should do.  there should be a search feature to find the string referenced.  and when you do, just change the values and save the file.  after its saved, overwrite the original (and of course delete it in the content folder).

Which bit are you trying to burn to disk?  the update (ie. the new default.xbe and the walky talky icon) or the content?  new weapons, skins etc.??

double check that you do not have 2 default.xbes on your harddrive.  files should look a little like this:

(the dlc)
e:/tdata/55530005/$c
e:/tdata/55530005/$c/5553000500000001/{files such as briefings and character, ect, should be in here}

(the patch)
e:/tdata/55530005/$u
e:/tdata/55530005/$u/{shell, contentmeta, and stonewallxboxdownloader should be in here, check to see if you have a default.xbe in here.  with the patched version there shouldnt be, because the patched version that would be in here is the one that you are overwriting your original with.}

dont send it anywhere.  against forum rules.

as far as size, the original default.xbe in the game files is 5,932KB.  The one from the m$ patch is 5,936KB.  the problem is, the patch .xbe needs to be "patched" by hex edit.  The one you have may, or may not have been already edited.  Refer to the link about how to do so, or to find out if it has been.  I believe it was referenced earlier in this thread.

priceless, i just did the install  the file i had was the GR2update.rar (18.9MB).  I follow the directions in the read me text.   copy both the $u adn $c folders to the Tdata/55530005/ folder and then put the one default.xbe the F:/games/GhostRecon2/  folder..  It worked for me first try, with a default.xbe in Game folder and Tdata folder

ok i think i have this cracked

do one at a time, update one first. copy $u and $c to your tdata file and the bigger default.xbe(patched) to your game files. Delete your save games in udata and restart. then do the second.worked for me!

Hope anyone still watches this thread

I need a little more info on the updates.
Can you play with servers who have the live-content?
I have no errors after updating, but too bad, i can't join games @ kai or xbc if they have an updated package!

Also,  GR2 verifies the new content everytime after the start menu, does this suppose to happen?

Thanks in advance
