How To Get Xbox Live Downloaded Content To Work
« on: January 30, 2004, 06:27:00 AM »

Hello, ******* is back,

Today, i thought it would be nice to share those levels from Rainbow 6 with other people amongst the scene to use them on xlink, onfurtunately, they got the files (DONT ASK ME TO GET THEM) and heck, they got the "these files are damaged" thingy. Pretty annoyed, i only seen a difference in the save profile, where my gamertag was inthere, and on the non-modded xbox, it wasnt.

So i hoped to get this to work, but just renaming / erasing it, which of course did not work. Now the next idea was, to get the xbox live acct. onto that xbox, but a fake one, just to get these to work, so modded only ppl could get it to work aswell, but that was only theory and not a 100% sure way to get it done, as that info is in the FatX table, and i cant write a dumper // writer for that stuff, i had the next idea, which works , so this is the intressting part.

I looked at rainbow 6's savegame folder, in tdata and udata, and noticed, that in tdata//r6dir, there was a $c (downloaded content) and $u (update for the game)
I then looked at the structure, which is exactly the same, as the one on the game disc. So then, as we all play from Harddisk usually, i put it onto the hdd, and copied the files from the $c dirs , to their according directories.  (not $u)

Now i tried if this works via Xlink (Thanks to BigGanja) after not getting the message that they're damaged, and he got the error that his rainbow 6 cannot load the carnival stage. Then i tried another stage, and it worked fine.

I then put the $u as savegame on the modded only xbox, and i did not get an error screen, or any bitching, so updates might not verificate if there is an xbl acct, compared to downloaded content.

Result, copying over the stuff from tdata\gamename\$c\ to their according place on the hdd where the backup of the game resides does work.

The update is unknown if it works, or being ignored, it still worked via Xlink, after i had the update stuff there, yet we could play, but maybe they did not touch the system link network protocol at all (which is reasonable). So my guess is, this is the way to get it done!

This was goal #1, my goal #2 is about getting premium downloadable content, adding it to the xblive xbox, and be able to use it without needing to pay it.
If that works, i keep you guys posted.

Oh and BTW, this trick should work with any game, and if you have common sense, and $u only has an updated default.xbe , you could try replacing the original. If they made changes to the core, then you will have to hope that it works from $u, if anyone made advancements, or wants to tell me their success on other games, be sure to tell me!

Good luck, and enjoy,
*******

I tried this same thing with Midtown Madness just now, and it seems like it is not working. But it might be an error on my side (i copied the dirs that existed in both zips, to both, so it might collide?). I tried using it as C/DL which didnt work either, put it in shared directory, no go either, i will take a deeper look into it tomorrow.
Going to test with more games.

yeah thats good man. the prob is most content is signed to one box. Ever since M$ screwed me i worked on the download content (premium one for mechassault) and had minimul luck (you can remove the checks for authenticity in the game but u cant resign it, so it only works with a mod on)

the fix is hack the content or get one of those oxm discs with the new maps on it, rip it and hook peeps up ;)

ok here is what i did to test:
1. I deleted my origional xbox hd and rebuilt it with slayer so it had no traces of the patch (you dont have to do that).
2.Installed RB6 on the HD.
3.Took the downloaded patch from my bros xbox and replaced the default.xbe on the hd with the default.xbe from the patch.
4. I also added all the system files to the system folder on the hd and maps to the maps folder.

Ading the downloader.xbe and the contentmeta.xbx did not seem to have any effect though. Probably some spyware for the xbox.

it seems to work although i could be wrong because i did'nt test it with anyone else in system link.... Any testers out there

The second idea i had was to put the u$ in the tdata 55500013 folder and replace the default.xbe of rainbow six on the hd and it has the same effect. The only diffrence was when the game loaded to the main menu an error came up which said "The 'autoupdate' is damaged and cannot be use. Press a to continue.
That was it.

Then I just deleted all of the patches and stuff of that sort and reverted to the origional game and just replaced the default.xbe from the hd with the patch. That worked to.

I dont get it, if anyone knows any of the other features the patch has it would be great.

r6-3 worked, but i am not having luck with other titles, links, and mm3 sad.gif

i will keep trying...

and btw, to the guy mentioning the signing of this...personally i dont mind, all i wanted was the ability to play with other users via system link...if you play on live, then it wont matter... and none of this matters.

I haven't seen anyone trying anything of this sort yet. So it's all new to me, and i haven't found alot of information on it either, but i will try to get this to work with every single game.

The Goal was to get it to work for modded xbox people using Xlink, and so far, with Rainbow 6 it worked. I will try with Wolfenstein, Unreal Championship and Ghost Recon Island Thunder today so i'll keep you guys posted.

Howdy ho!

I just tried it with Ghost Recon Island Thunder (hell that was a mess to be done)
and my result is fairly good, it works! i tried it with oil refinery, and i could host a game flawless.

Now here's what i did:

I put the *brfg-box.rsb & shots.rsb into /briefings
I put the D02_refinery.rsb into /Textures
i put the .env & .mis files into /mission

Now i edited the campaign.xml and added the map (unsure if necessary) :

   <Mission>
      <Filename>xd02_refinery_dcm.mis</Filename>
   </Mission>

the *.glb i put into /globs
The .res been copied to /shell
the .qop and .pob gone into /model

Now i launched the game Game and it worked. Oil Refinery. This works with GRIT then too! Amazing, 2 Games where content download already works when injecting it properly.

Proof:

Woot! (more games will follow)

A new Game , a New Success, this time with Unreal Championship,
here is what i did (its a bit more complicated):

All files go into /system , but  You have to edit Xmaps.det, .est and .frt and add the map (i tried inferno)

I inject the data from xmaps.det (always from downloaded content, in the one of the game itself) Injected data from Inferno.det into XMapList.det & est and into Xmaplist.frt and XMaps.frt injected data from XMaps.est into XMaps.est

*note*: i got a pal/multi retail game disc, .det = german, frt = french text, and so forth i think the .int's are enough to be modded.

the .lin and .utx into system folder too. You need all this, and then it will work, as tested with Inferno.

Here's the proof :

As you can see i didnt get the text to display (i might have forgotten to inject into the .int) And nor it to display the image, but everything else , loaded fine!

Now this time i tested return to castle wolfenstein, and without luck, but i didnt test extensively.

All you have is .arena's, which will look similar to:

CODE

{
map       "mp_barn"
longname     "Barn"
type    "wolfmp wolfsw wolfel"
timelimit     7
axisRespawnTime  15
alliedRespawnTime   20
}

Now, this should be injected into some file somewhere, but i did not look hard (as i havent found .arena's) But alas, it arent real maps, but just existing maps so far for wolf, I will look further into it, as it's the last game i personally own where it does not work.

Anyone with their results, or more information, feel free to post, and of course if you had a success with a different game.

Update:

UC and UT2003 have a different way of loading the maps, the PC has .ut2 files, which include the textures so far i know, or go into the shared textures/

UC now has .lin files (the actual level i think) and a .utx (textures?) Files.
So its not compatible to just inject them, which was my idea.

Now for GRIT or R6, i got no idea yet wink.gif

Is really nobody else using this stuff that i get 0 replies? I might stop to publish my findings if its sooooo unintressting and it looks like i bump the thread ;(
