Getting Downloadable Content
« on: December 18, 2003, 04:35:00 PM »

How can one that does NOT have Live! get the downloadable content that are out for certain games ? IE Ghost Recon Island Thunder, RS3 Crimson Skies etc. ? Is it possible ? I don't want to go out and buy a copy of OXM for the $12 that it cost cause well it's not worth it for 1 extra level. There must be a way ! Help

Um... you answered the only way to do that. Congrats. I really don't like being an ass about it, but sometimes it can't be helped.

From everything I've read in the past, it's not currently possible to rip XBLive! content from one xbox and place it on another, even when we know what files they are. At least I've not seen anyone posting about making it work.

And OXM is the only known non-XBLive! carrier of XBLive! content.

I'll suggest getting OXM, cause it's a decent mag, and the demos are a nice plus.

Ya but the time I get the mag i've played the demos but they are no longer a demo... it is a great mag but I can't justify paying the $12.99 can for it... Now i'm not worried about getting it to work if I knew what the files were I could write an installer and get it to work I just need the dang files... I don't mind spending the time I just need some more technical info on it is all.

Content can not be shared. It is specific to the Xbox it was downloaded to.

If you want the content without Live, get the OXM magazine. Also, there is a Rainbow Six 3 demo disc out that has content for Island Thunder and Splinter Cell.

Y a that's the one I have I just don't think that it is specific to each xbox.... There has to be another way. I live by "It's not impossible just improbable" So there has to be a way... besides like I said earlier $12.99 is alot for just 1 or 2 extra levels on a game don't you think ?

No, there is not a way. Xeero and I tried it, but no luck (and so did others)

12.99 (9.99 US) is a very nice price for a DVD with:

Rainbow Six 3 demo
Splinter Cell demo with THREE Live levels on it
Island Thunder demo with FOUR non-Live levels on it
Ghost Recon demo

What what what ? Why don't you just grab the installer right off the disc and do it that way ?

Can you share any info you learned when you tried it?

xboxfrizzy probably isn't too far off in assuming it has something to do with the eeeprom.   I would also guess that it has something to do with the HD ID too.  (Since I believe my downloaded content showed up as corrupted after I installed a larged HD...same eeprom though...)

Plus, wouldn't it be feasible to pull the updater off of one of those OXM discs?  It's probably possible to pull one of those apart and see how and where the content is copied over.

No, that is impossible. The content can not be transfered to a memory unit, and worked on another Xbox.

Would it be possible if you put the eeprom of the xbox with download content on your xbox,  then transfer the content?

You can not transfer the content. When you do, the files become corrupted.

I will say it again. The ONLY way to get Xbox Live content, is from Live itself or OXM magazine. Content can not be copied to a memory unit, copied via XBSM, etc.

The content is specific to the Xbox system it was downloaded to.

Well go look into that then.

Correct. You can use someone else's gamertag on your Xbox (with their agreement of course), download the content, and then delete the gamertag. The content will still be there, too.
