Of course it is. But the Xbox won't load the backup with the mod off.

it can read the burned disc just fine, but media checks tell the bios is burned and not an origianl so the bios gives you the finger and sends you to the dashboard with a little error messege (xbox cannot recognize this disc, make sure it is an original xbox game, dvd or audio cd) or whatever the hell it says

Backups do not work on Live. If you play them on Live, you will be banned because your modchip is on, and Live detects the modified BIOS.
