I can extract the warthog dds fine and I can edit the color and inject it back into the map fine, but the problem I have is when I load up my map the warthog looks dark from a distance and you can't see the new coloring unless you are close to it.  Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  I'm using photoshop 7.1 with the added dds support.

Iron Forge's tutorial on texture modding

That should help. It's all about the multipurposes...

Thank you Micahst for the link, I will try it when I get home tonight.  I want to also thank Iron Forge for the tutorial.  I'm using PhotoShop 7.1 with the .dds upgrade and my warthog picture is also flat, I guess that's the only way to edit it with this program

I believe that is how most TEXTURES are modded, however MODELS can be viewed in 3D. Its just that there is no model extractor...YET.

I could be wrong on everything I have said, including this sentence. If so, I apologize.  tongue.gif

i'm sorry for going slightly off topic but how exactly do you install the dds plugin, i get an error when i boot photoshop everytime and i can't load dds images,  when i delete the plug in from where i have it no more problems other than i still can't load dds images

I kept getting errors 'till I installed directx 9.  Is there anyone doing it the same as me and getting the results they want?  I don't know anything about installing the texture tool that comes with directx sdk or even using it

Edit:
OK, thanks for all the replys.  I figured out what I was doing wrong.  When you open the .dds file don't generate the mip maps so when you close it, after editing it, then you generate the mip maps, tried it and it works perfect

Psilocybe, What version of PhotoShop are you using?  You could head over to haloskins.com and try their 7.0 .dds plug-in, or even post in their forum under PhotoShop .dds help
