are you sure you can make it fire vehicles?  I know you can change projectiles w/ HCE, and make guns fire master chiefs, but I don't think vehicles.  Not sure though

NEWS!

News

It should hit the main page in a few minutes... but you get it here first!

Cartographer Beta 6 is here!

Cartographer has made a huge leap forward this release with the addition of its new Effect Framework. From a very high level, effects can be thought of as PPF patches that can be partially applied or removed from a map dynamically while editing. In practice, however, effects are actually much much more then that. For more information about this cool new feature, or to install the first ever effect package (after you've installed Beta 6), head on over to the effect section of the Cartographer website.
All other changes from Beta 5 to Beta 6 are related to the Effect Framework. The main user interface, for example, had to be re-worked somewhat to make room for the new features. No other features or major bug fixes were added.

BIG thanks to GIANTNewb, Michast, and Terminat0r for their help with the first effect package. Great job guys!

Please note the new project urls:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wrote the Cartographer map editor and I am looking for any comments / suggestions.

If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, check it out Here.

It should be very easy to use.

The first thing I need to do is get more supported maps together. This is simple, just time consuming. The link above explains how.

Next, I would like to have the editor fetch and store maps from your box automatically.

After that, I need to update the descriptions and images of the elements.

Any other suggestions are welcome. And, if anyone would like to help, please let me know.

I'll monitor this thread.

Thanks,

eXentric

Nice work mate!
I haven't tried it but it sounds cool.

You might've already read my OS is too old for .NET, I remember trying to work this out so i could use myxamatosis but it's just too much mucking around.

anyway good luck with it, I can see how much easier it will make things.

oh I do have a suggestion, might be a bit too much trouble than it's worth but it would be good if you could gather information on what combos don't work and make the proggy reject it if attempted (error message or whatever).

Thats a good point. We'd have to figure out which ones don't work, and I could build some kind of exclusions into the MapKeys.ctg file.

I think its a good topic for another forum (I don't want to clutter up this one). In fact, I just started one here: Good bad and ugly Halo Combinations

That can be done, but it will take some time. The problem is that I will need to require the user to open the map file before editing and then parse all known locations and look up all known elements. Not fun, but can be done.

Okay, sorry if that didn't make sense.

The program does not require the map to exist on your machine until you want to save your changes. This is because the maps and item locations are all defined in the MapKeys.ctg file. When you go to save, you will need to have the map file on your hard drive somewhere. You can get the map file on your hard drive by FTPing it from your XBOX. Please see other tutorials on how to do this.

Note that there will be several map files on your xbox, but only one of them contains the actual map data that you want to modify. I am keeping track of the file name and file size in the MapKeys.ctg file for each map. So, when you go to save, it should automatically filter the list of map files down to the one that you need to overwrite. For example, Blood Gulch is cache003.map. It will warn you if you try to save over any file with an unexpected file name or file size. You can proceed at your own risk.

Once the file has been updated, simply FTP it back to your XBOX temp directory.

I hope to automate this process by having it handle the FTP for you.

I also hope to get more maps into the CTG file tonight. Watch the website for an updated CTG file late this evening.

Hope that helps,
