The new news on Xbox 2 possibly having a HardDrive is way off.  The Patent was requested back in 2001 and has referance documents from 2000.  This is an original patent for the Xbox.  If you read through the entire patent you will also come to this conculcion.  This is just what I see.

note: referances to documents dated 2002 and 2003 are for newer Xbox version (1.1 - 1.5)
