Multiple/default Resolutions?

Having just migrated to an HDTV set I've gone and set up my emulators for 720p mode.

The trouble is, when I took my xbox round to my mate's house to play some Apidya (in WinUAEX) I was greeted by a big blurry section of the larger screen because obviously the picture was still set up for HDTV and his TV is only an old CRT.

Is there any way of defining a default screensize that it reverts to when it's not connected to an HDTV?

I only tested WinUAEX so I do applogise if other xport emulators have this as standard.
