I cannot reproduce.  What is the exact/complete path (including drive letter) of the file you are trying to launch/configure?

F:\Emulators\dosxbox_v12\dosfiles\waxworks\waxworks.dos

Don't know what to tell you.  Perhaps try deleting the entire waxworks directory and reinstall it.

Yeah I'll try and delete everything dosxbox related stuff and reinstall.
Hopefully that'll do the trick.

A thousand thanks for all of your hard work in bringing emulation to the Xbox.

It turned out to be the stub files dosxbox creates that caused the problem.
I deleted all *.dos files created and reconfigured the whole lot and everything works like a charm now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Sure enough, just after you release a new version of Dosbox, they update their core.

The latest core source code is .66-rc1

Mounting zip files still might be a decent feature to add, and patches do exist for that.

ok.  Sorry I didn't jump on this sooner but I had a handful of titles under the "old" naming conventions that I had to manually change to the new standard.  Overall it was a relatively easy process.  Just something I was too busy to really sit down right away.

Things I noticed

The config -> general setting -> page 2 seems to be missing.
For some reason I couldn't find the skin editor either.

The screenshots are stored in (for example) e:\screenshots\dos\dosfiles\ultima 5.dos\gamedata\ when I think they should actually be e:\screenshots\dos\dosfiles\ultima 5.dos\

That's about it for now.

Thanks..

i was just about to say all that

the option to go to page 2 is not there, i don't know how everyone missed that

and the screenshot thing is really annoying, not only the 6 folders that its in, but none of my old screenshots show anymore
so does this mean i have to retake them or rename them all?

Well for now I just moved mine, but it was only 30 or so games.  Assuming that he fixes it, I'd say just leave them for now.

I never got into setting up alot of stuff because of the odd naming convention that I was hoping would eventually get fixed.  Now that it is easier I'll probably start doing some more.

OK, I followed the simple directions and I got to the director where it lists all my dos games and all under D:/

then I click on a game, it tells me to type in name...I leave it as it was and then it goes to black DOS box with a little blue one above explaining the commands/directions. The game does not start up....what am I supposed to type in for it to start? Thanks, its a noob question

There is nothing functionally wrong with the screenshots unless someone has evidence to the contrary.  The fact that the older screenshots are not carried over is unfortunate, but it was necessary to change it so that things worked correctly in all cases.  Ditto for the configuration files.

There is a bug with the second page of options (and the option to edit skins) not being accessible anymore - this will be fixed.

Anyone having "noob" issues with DOSXBox needs to first familiarize themselves with DOS in general, then they should concentrate on using DOSBox for Windows.  Once you're comfortable with both, then you will be better equipped to handle DOSXBox.

ok that's fine.  Was just hoping for some kind of consistency among x-port emu's in the screenshots arena.  I've already converted the 20 or so that I have to the new name format.

So I'll just continue with the new ones under the new subdirectory format.  The format of the configuration files is perfect and although a hassle to convert I think we are better off in the long run.  It makes it a heck of alot easier to "share" configurations.  Something that is doubly important considering how difficult DOS games can be in setting up compared to console games.

I'm just glad I finally got Ultima Underworlds going.  I couldn't get it working under earlier versions for some reason, although this time around I think I realized the stupid rookie mistake I made in setting it up.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Jbmtk - running older DOS only games requires a certain understanding of DOS and installing these games.  Luckily Dosxbox does remove a few hassles like setting up a config.sys file to allocate the proper amount of memory (EMS/XMS/etc) and loading drivers in high memory.  Oh what a headache.

But how you get a game up and running depends on what form you have it in.  If you downloaded it from somewhere there is a chance it can be run right off.  But alot of PC games need to be "installed" first and there are too many variations of this installation process to be able to just sum it up in a few paragraphs.

Dosbox itself does have some msg boards that may be more helpful to you Jbmtk.  I'll dig up the link later on and post it here.  If I remember they even have a few tutorials to get people on the right track.

Deathx88 - believe it or not it may be possible to write a "dosxbox" script that will run thru the screenshots directories and move everything to where it should be.  Problem is, chances are most peoples screenshots are in that old wacky hex name format.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Dosbox forums can be found here.  For all your game installation questions.

Just click on the forums link.

Just a note for anyone who managed to get Biomenace running under earlier versions of Dosxbox only to have it bomb with this one.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
