Personally, I'm leaning towards the theory the the v1.5 Xboxes were a small batch with manufacturing defects.  I've still never seen one.

Ooooh, I like that theory.  smile.gif

My theory:
1.5 versions do not exist!

Reasoning:
1) In order to test/debug m$ does this without any manual work!
2) Basic electronics: in order to join two different circuits u need to have a common "ground"!
4) How is it that "these 1.5" xbox appear sporadically all over the world?
5) Latest xbox i've moded was 1.4 (Grand Slam Pack, with man. date 11/11/2003)

BUT

1) During the disconnection of the two circuits, while one of them is still ON,
can produce a surge. This surge its possible to burn some components, or even an
LPC line
2) Dont think that m$ in an effort to cut down expenses would invest for new debug/test equipment! When something works, why change it?

Ok, How about this situation...

The factory that produces the 1.4 motherboards, in making one of the (or a few) batches of motherboards last summer, had a production error, resulting in the missing points on the LPC bus. (Are there any other differences? I ask, because I've never seen a v1.5 myself to know if there are any other differences...)

MS either found out about the error and pulled the boards from their stock, or simply used them up and subsequent batches of 1.4 boards didn't have that production error.

No matter how the above scenario plays out, it would explain that what we call v1.5 boards aren't a true revision, just flawed 1.4 boards, which explains why there are so few of them in existence, and why new boxes (even the crystal LEs) are still using v1.4s.

Versions are not COMPLETELY in direct relation to the manufacturing date.  If you look at the version chart, some 1.1s and 1.2 were made in the same week, just in different lines.

I've modded countless Xboxes with a date up to 1/04... never bothered to check the version though as it was of no importance to me.

QUOTE (Troed @ Apr 3 2004, 07:16 PM)
The copper traces to the LPC points ARE NOT THERE on the v1.5.

If I'm not mistaken (don't have a mobo in front of me right now), even on v1.0 to v1.4 Xboxes there are no visible traces to the GND and +3.3v pins.  These lines are in one of the internal circuit layers of the motherboard.  I could be wrong, but it's 2AM and I don't feel like finding a mobo to check smile.gif

But Troed, don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing with you.  I believe what you're saying.  I think the true reason for the few v1.5 Xboxes will probably remain a mystery.

The important thing is for people to realise that v1.5 Xboxes are no longer in production, and they should NOT have to do the v1.5 fix if their soldering on the LPC bus is done correctly in the first place.

I personally modded 2 v1.5 xbox's, both manufactured on Aug 23 if I remember correctly.

This whole 1.4/1.5 version thing has me thinking.

Like I posted in this thread, I definetly have an Xbox mobo that does not have either 3.3v or GND on the LPC.  I verified this with a multimeter. Maybe the 1.5v mobo's design was screwed up somehow and discontinued from use, reverting back to the 1.4.

I am one of the people who have been having clock reset problems.  I am using a Xenium chip, X2 4981.06 and Evox 3935.  I never unplug my Xbox and every so often the clock will set itself to the year 8907.  If this happens and you don't notice it and you are playing a game and do a save, that save will be screwed up and most games will not use it.

Since Evox will still run with a corrupt clock time/date, it is very easy to not notice when it happens.  I believe Avalaunch and UnleashX will force you to fix the clock on bootup if the clock is pooched. Thinking that the problem lies with X2 or Evox, I was just about to switch to UnleashX as my default dash and give that a try.

Now I'm wondering,  do the other people with clock reset problems also have a 1.5 v mobo?  I've posted questions before asking other people with the clock reset problem to report what they are running to see if there is a common thread but have not got any replies.  Could the 1.5 mobo be it?

J.

p.s. - my soldering is fine.

This will probably piss a few people off, I have modified hundreds of XBoxes, mainly using the Akira modchip, and have seen one v1.5 xbox, it had a manufacturing date of 9 December 2003.

I can assure you there was no ground at all on pins 2 & 12 of the LPC. I did not power it up and check for 3.3V.

I'm in New Zealand, we have PAL xboxes here, maybe all the v1.5 xboxes you guys have seen in August were NTSC.

I've since modified xboxes with the exact same manufacturing date, but they were standard v1.4.

Probably useless information, but thought I'd add it anyway.

I have 2 xbox's made in August and one made in January of 2004..

All seem to be the version 1.4. Not that anyone cares.

I've also modded a TON of Xbox's and I have yet to see one of these so called 1.5's, not saying they are not real or anything. Who knows....

stg58, dozens of people have said the same thing - the problem is with the x2 bios, a topic for another thread, in another forum.

Even the 1.5s have the 5v on the LPC. You probably need to check your soldering.
