Request For Emus: Slo-mo
« on: October 20, 2006, 04:54:00 PM »

Hi,

I just thought of a great idea that would be useful for some games: slo-mo.

There is a fast-forward option, I would guess slo-mo would simply be the reverse of this procedure, so hopefully won't be too hard to implement. I usually use the fast forward option to skip dialogue etc, but with slo mo you still want to play, so assigning it to a button press (and hold) might not be the best idea. Perhaps a toggle? Or an option to select toggle or hold...hehe. Perhaps also with the toggle, variable speeds settings could be applied.

These same options for fast forward could prove interesting also: a fast forward toggle, with variable speed settings. Will bring an extra challenge to easy games.

Lots of ideas here, but however it gets implemented (if it does), some form of slo mo would be nice.

Thanks for listening, keep up the great work.

ZSNES supports this (with a core more recent than current Zsnexbox versions use)
You can use it as with fast forward (you press and when you release it stops) and you can also use it as a toggle.
You can also set the slowdown speed with a slider in the GUI.

The feature was mostly implemented for people doing tool assisted speed runs, but i've used it to get thru tough points, where i didn't want to overuse savestates. It really helps if your trying to pull insane moves in fighting games, wall-jump in super metroid, things of that sort.

As far as ZSNES goes, i've put in my suggestion, for if a recent core with the feature is ever ported, in the feature request thread a bit ago.

I would definately vouch for it to be added to the xport GUI (and as such in most emus using it), if it is possible whitout altering the core emulation.
