Anyways, when I enter a battle, I can only attack. No GFs, no items, no running, just attack.

I can use special attacks after I get them, but.... yeah...

Is this just part of the game and me being retarded, or should I be able to do other things?

have u ever played FF8 on a playstation or is this your first go? not having played it I cant tell you what you should or should not be able todo, but it sounds like more a game issue than an emulator issue... perhaps a walkthrough/guide to help you? i know i was LOST in FF7 the first go without a guide, i was like "yea materia, thats cool ::ignores materia b/c he doesnt understand it::"

Yeah, I own the game. It's being lent out right now (Really, I haven't seen it since November last year... It's gone through about six people without ever seeing me *Sob*) and I'm almost certain I remember being able to use items to, you know, heal myself when I was just about dead....

Lol, must have been a long since you last played FF8. The game uses the junction system, where you equip guardian forces to increase your stats. You can also equip your characters with skills/abilities which include attack, item, summon gf, magic, etc

Yeah, it has been a while, but I have junctioned... I junctioned Shiva, Ifrit, and Quetzacotl to Squall, but nothing shows up in the menu. Give me some time and I'll post a screen shot.

If I remember right, once you're done junctioning magic to increase your stats, the next menu that pops up is where you customize your character's battle commands and stat plus increases (str + 10%, etc).

Yeah, that wasn't working.

I started over just barely. I wasn't that far, so it didn't matter. It works now, for some reason. I wish I knew why it wouldn't....
