Xport (pcsxbox) Settings?
« on: June 05, 2006, 03:10:00 PM »

I have been reading a lot about Pcsxbox performance and I have been trying to play Xenogears.

I have been playing it fine but during the battles toward the middle of the game the framerate drops to an un-playable level.

I have been trying to follow all the FAQ's and guides which claim this game plays fine, and I am seeing things about advanced settings such as BIOS mode, Graphics Fix, CPU fix, etc.

I dont see any such options in any Xport emulators, again, namely the pcsxbox emu.

Any ideas, I'm really enjoying the game and im missing half of it due to dropped frame (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Xenogears - works just fine in BIOS mode, I played it from beginning to end with just the default graphic fixes on. -xenocida

Make sure you're using the required bios that person specified. It's not included in the pcsxbox emulator due to legality issues, but I can point you in the right direction.

The bios that person's talking about is called scph1001.bin

Whats up

"Xenogears - works just fine in BIOS mode, I played it from beginning to end with just the default graphic fixes on. -xenocida " from the pcsxbox compatiblity list

When you select a game your brought to a menu the first line says "bios mode",you can change it from "HLE"or "Bios File". you have to play it off "bios file" so hit "A" and select "bios file".
the 3rd line is "graphics fixes" you dont need to mess with it according to the compatibility list.
the next line is the "CPU fixes" again leave that alone for this game.

I never played Xenogears off the xbox so I cant tell you if this setting is 100% accurate, could be. lets us know. Mind you some games dont run full 60fps, in fact some games dont even run 30 fps regardless if the list says it works great or not. I believe this has to do with the emulator requiring more HP from the xbox, so dont be suprise if some games run more sluggish than others especialy graphic intense games like "Xenogears.
BIOS mode, Graphics Fix, CPU fix are all special features for Pcsxbox only. This port uses a software plugin to make it more compatible.

Good luck.

Give the thread poster a little credit...
I'm doing exactly as he's done - leaving all the options on default, using the correct BIOS, and it's still fairly choppy even in the beginning of the game.
Not to mention the sound being a couple of seconds out of sync on the FMVs.

Wish I could find a solution...

Maybe you are using a Software graphic filtering, those filters use a lot more of the CPU so they reduce the framerate of the games on some emulators. Better use a Hardware graphic filtering, they don't reduce the framerate because they use the gpu and not the cpu (I think). Sorry for the english.

Hello Werk,

I don't know if I did get correctly your point, but
something similar happened to me when I was a Xport's newbie user.

Every single rom, on every single Xport emulator, by the time you
run it for the first time - present a super complete configuration screen,
specific for that game. So you can change yet different options that
are not present on the general emulator settings.

Once you enter the game, the emulator assumes that you have configured
the game and do not show the screen again. So, I think you by-passed
it on the first time, and now - when you press A to enter the game,
you jump directly from game selection to it.

To get this screen again --- launch your game PRESSING X instead of A.
I know it is a very simple issue, but it was hard to find out this
for me in the past.

Cheers,
C.
