StepmaniaX - Stepmania for XBox - v11

http://xport.xbox-scene.com
http://www.stepmania.com/stepmania/

What's New :

 - JPEG files work now

 - Changing screens not randomly crash anymore.
This was caused by an out-of-memory error because, by default, the current
screen objects are not freed before loading the new screen objects when
backing out.  I'm not sure why this is not enabled by default, and why there
is no way to configure it in the menus, but it may be because it's buggy.
   I guess we'll soon find out. smile.gif

 - Characters now work.  If you want to use Characters, download the following
file and put it in your "PACKAGES" directory:

     http://www.stepmania...s_DancePC.smzip

That file contains a set of "bones" that is required for some older character
   sets to work.

 - Added controls for menu navigation on all other games types (including Pump)
If you already switched to Pump mode and cannot control the menus anymore,
   then delete the e:\saves\stepmaniax\keymaps.ini file.
You will have to configure the input to your liking on the Options screen.

Awesome, I knew you'd come through with the update this quickly...I'll test it out a little bit right now, and a lot after work and post something in a few hours from now.

I'm having a problem with a certain smzip, foonmix_plus.smzip....it's my own copy of it, minus the theme & videos, bringing it down below 60mb. The song previews take way too long to start for just this set of songs, and 99% of the time, it just locks up after selecting the song (freezes at nth stage screen), with the same OUT OF MEMORY errors.

I am currently uploading the smzip in question and will PM you the link since it's a good 57mb.

I have tested this same smzip with the cache fully deleted and rebuilt, with this being the only set of songs, so I know I don't have an overload of tracks.

Go to Graphics Options and set Display Color, Texture Color, and Movie Color to 16bit.  Some of the songs in that foonmix_plus would fail at 32, but they played at 16.  Did you change it to 32bit or did it somehow end up on that by default?

The delayed previews only happen with OGG files that are compressed in SMZIP archives as opposed to stored.  When an OGG file loads, it has to do a whole bunch of scanning/seeking throughout the file.  If the OGG file is compressed in the SMZIP file, then whenever it does a seek, it has to perform a serial read of all the data up until the seek position.  This results in a long delay while the file processes before it can start playing.  MP3s, on the other hand, only have to perform a couple of seeks and therefore start much faster even if they are compressed in the SMZIP archive.

If you repackage your SMZIP file so that all of the files are stored (uncompressed) then things will be much faster.

You have no clue what you're talking about do you? It's not an 'add on', it's a theme, and a horribly outdated them at that. That was custom made for 3.9 Alpha 7, which was what Stepmaniax V5 was, and this is 3.9 Final.

Download the SMZIP located here: http://www.laser1234...p?pid=et&fid=TE , place in /Packages, and then go into the Appearance Options and choose it. Oh, and make sure you delete that horrible outdated piece of crap before you do this.

About the d-pad not working, for some reason the config was changed in the v11 update. Go into the Config Key/Joy Mappings option and set the buttons accordingly.

"only one list of songs appear?" Either reload the songs via the Options menu, or check to see that you're in the folder sort where you only see one open set of songs at a time.

XPort, I gotta ask about something I noticed. Why is xboxpackage.smzip at least twice as big as it should be? There's apparently three copies of every file in-cluded. I extracted and rezipped with no recompression, and it's half the size @ 7mb.

Note: What the hell is with this forum, I didn't type "in-cluded" with a hyphen.
