I just spent a great deal of time getting StepmaniaX v12 to load several song packs and noticed some interesting things about what can cause (non-memory related) lock ups when caching songs. The problems usually stem from the image files.

1.) If the song folder has multiple image formats, a caching lock up will occur. This happened with several songs that contained two background images; One in jpg and another in png. It also occurs if, considering the banner and background, one is jpg and the other is png.

2.) If the folder contains image files and none of their filenames contain the text "bg" or "background", a caching lock up will occur. I guess StepmaniaX is parsing the filenames of image files to find the background and locks up if it doesn't find one with that text. Note however, if the folder does not contain any image files, the song will cache properly.

3.) If an image file has an incorrect extension, a caching lock up will occur. I guess some song authors thought renaming that "banner.png" file to "banner.jpg" converted the image to a jpg. Since you can't visually tell if this has been done, consider this possibility last. If all the images in the folder are the same image type and the background image is labelled properly and StepmaniaX still locks up when caching the song, this is probably the issue. Just open all the image files with your favorite image editing software, re-save them (make sure to use the same file type for them all) and delete the old images.

Interesting. That must be why a lot of my songs freeze on boot/caching.

I have a small problem, i changed my keys so i can use a pad, and now i wanted to add a theme but when i click the right thumbstick(witch was to see options) i dosent display the options and none of the buttons on the controller works eaither. how can i view the options or change my buttons?

I have the same issue mentioned with the character being too far to the right, but it is also lowered as well..so I can barely see the top of the head. However, when I reset the

CenterImageTranslateY=0

back to zero, the character shows up right smack back in the middle...but when I adjust it to fit my widescreen, it's back to where I started. Any ideas?

Ok i got the keys figured out now, and i installed the supernova theme, but when im in the song menu and move up or down the screen turns black and my xbox reboots. Has anyone got this theme to work if yes please help.

OK, so I installed StepmaniaX. Had a little problem at first, I think due to wonky FTP setup (maybe I corrupted some ascii files during the transfer). Did not launch at all. So I erased the entire thing, re-uploaded and.....

IT WORKS GREAT!!!!!

has anyone found a solution to that problem with the 2nd player arrows? i'm planning on hosting a tourney very soon but i don't have any DDR's, all i have is this, and frankly it's all i need (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have a few questions about the new StepManiaX v12.

1. How can I move the arrows so the first & the second player arrows are aligned? The second player's arrow are too far to the right, so I wanna know how to fix this.

2. Is there any way to get rid of the "Hold start to exit" while playing a stage?

3. How can I change the difficulty on the Extra stages?

4. How can I get rid of the "Toasty" animation & sound?

5. How can I map the A button to press start, have it as a down arrow button & access the options menu like in the DDR series? Is it possible?

Hey Xport,

I'm having trouble FTPing Xbox and PC together and I tried everything to make it work, but it doesn't work. So, anyway, I'm trying to make a CD-ROM of StepMania X for Xbox. Is there a guide for this somewhere? I'm trying to make the ISO image and burn it but it doesn't work, am I just a noob at burning or is there a reason that it's not working? Anything I need to know about making the game work from the disc? Thanks in advance.

now i got v12 to run.

the characters only show when i do not resize the screen (which i need to do, because it shows up WAAY to big on my screen) but when i switch on the FPS stat-o-meter, i can see that the engine renders the character somewhere (VPS=2400 as compared to VPS=500 without the character active)

anyone know if there is a workaround to get the character back on the screen?

thanks in advance for any hints.
