So What's The Deal?
« Reply #15 on: February 12, 2006, 02:50:00 AM »

I do not think that XPort will care about Nestopia's compatibility. XPort would have to do a lot of work just so that less than 1% of NES ROMs will now be playable. XPort is planning small updates of some of his existing Xbox emulators. XPort is not planning anything earth shattering. In this thread everyone please give out any requests of possible small updates. Those small updates are very important and will help make XPort's magnificent emulators even more professional than they already are and will also help fix any little bugs or problems that they currently have. Please do not ask for any new projects considering that XPort has already stated that he most likely will not start any new projects. Thanks again Xport. I very much appreciate all the hard work that you have done and the effort that you have put in for the advancement of Xbox emulation.

Nice to see you back, XPort!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

My requests are:
  • WinUAEX to the latest source
  • OpenBOR (as someone before requested)
OpenBOR would be very nice, cause there are some nice MODs for the game

THX in advance  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Please do not listen to the clown that posted right before me XPort. He must be ignorant concerning emulators because there is plenty of small updates left that you could do that would be appreciated very much by many people here.

did some research on original sources of 3 of the emulators

checking PCSXBox >>

the last updates to the CVS where on Fri Jul 16 2004, i guess your using those sources as your last release is from around nov 2004

however pete's graphic plugin was updated

-------------
P.E.Op.S. Soft GPU (Windows)

* The Windows PSX soft gpu emulation plugin, using DirectDraw. You can get the Windows binaries here, for the full sources check out the sourceforge page.

P.E.Op.S. Windows Soft GPU Version 1.17 (228 KByte Zip-File)

- Version 1.17: HQ2X, HQ3X and Scale3X display filters, y sprite mirroring, fixed blending mode, game fix to prevent distorted textures, floating point fps limit

Release date: June 12, 2005
--------------

http://www.pbernert.com/html/gpu.htm#SOFTWIN

checking XBoyAdvance >>

the CVS is still being updated, but not as much as the unofficial builds below

and here is a a release with many updates and fixes that are not in the official CVS(below build is bases on newest CVS)
http://forums.ngemu.com/visualboy-advance/...vba-builds.html

checking StepManiaX >>

Well this one is still being updated on an almost daily basis

Regarding fceultra v/s nestopia

Recently it was discovered that the pallet rendering algorythm used in all nes emulators was incorrect, so far only mess and nestopia have updates to the correct algorythm as far as i know, now several games that displayed the wrong colours or where unplayable or difficult to play before work perfectly now

a huge amount of mappers have been fixed or updatet and the ppu is almost perfect now.

the latest CVS is already a lot more advanced that the latest official release, and nestopia now passes all of the nes-stresstests

As far as i can tell there is currently only 1 game known to be not working of the goodnes set.

As I stated above, I think it'd be better if he'd merge the two into one, and we can choose which emulator to launch the rom.
Rom Settings:
Launch Rom Using "FCEUltra"
Launch Rom Using "Nestopia"

This way we'd  have even better compatibility for the emulator.

What you are asking for Diontae18 will require too much work.

WinUAEX possible improvements:

- ISO+MP3 support rather than just ISO with no audio tracks.

- Bootable HDF files only work the first time you run them. Subsequent attempts just boot to the kickstart screen.

welcome back!

- some Hugo fixes would be fine, I get crashes all the time.

- Winuaex could maybe get an intetegration of the Lemonamiga database or Gamebase Amiga (Cheats and other infos).

//They also working on some whdload autoboot images or something, couldnt find enough info about it, hopefully we get rid of the long loading times soon

thats all from me, for now

Welcome Back Xport, Glad you're back (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

My Requests would be

NeoGenesis - Flicker Filter

SMSplusX - GUI inline with other emulators (Clip border like in FCEUltra, Flicker Filter and so on) and an overclocking feature like in neogenesis.

ArnoldX - Few games dont run full speed (Don't know if this a prob with the actual emulator, or just xbox port). - Screensize, most games look very squashed, and you have to cut off borders of the game to get it looking more like the original (The Dizzy games are a perfect example of this). Is there a way to fix this without constantly adjusting screensize?

Beats of Rage - Some of the Newer mods won't work would be good if BoR was updated and we could use newer mods, also some kind of mod selector would be nice.

Thanx

I've already turned most of my games into autoboot HD images using WinUAE (some using WHDLoad) that's why I'd like to see the HDF problem fixed in WinUAEX. Nice to know somebody else had a similar idea.

Hopefully this isn't a question that's been asked to death, but I was wondering why Pete's soft plugin is used and not one of his Direct3D ones.  Doesn't the xbox run on directx (or a very similar varient)?  I don't know too much about the actual architecture, but I was just wondering I suppose.  Also, why was the ability to use 32-bit color removed?  It's definitely not a huge deal, but on some games the 16-bit color doesn't look so hot.

It seems that the developers of OpenBOR have stated interest in porting it to the Xbox if XPort decides that he does not want to work on it. What one developer has stated is as follows.

The DC version is done, DOS also (obviously) we should be able to do the PS2 version soon too hopefully. We're looking into even doing the XBOX port also, but it's something that will be new to us.

If XPort is not interested at all, we would greatly appreciate access to the XBOX BOR source code, or even snippets to help us along.

Sorry to ask again but we're being bugged for an XBOX version

That is something to think about. AL BeasTie wrote that post February 21, 2005. I do not know if there is still interest in porting OpenBOR to the Xbox by the development team.

I keep seeing requests for emulators like NeoGenesis and FCEUltraX?  The FCEUltra vs Nestopia argument is just flat out retarded.  It reminds me of people wanting a Zsnes port when Xsnes9X was near perfect.  Wouldnt you rather Xport focus his time on emulators that have really shaky compatibility?  Again, I go back to Hugo and also PCSX (if the sources are there to make any sort of impact).  Even a MAME core update, as other programmers can take it from there.
