Pcsxbox Bios Directories
« on: November 19, 2005, 12:39:00 AM »

I'm running PCSXBOX and when I run games in HLE they work for a moment but then always freeze. So I was going to try to run them in bios mode to see how that worked. I have several different SCPH bios files and I installed them in this directory F:emulators/pcsxbox/bios. However, whenever I try to run the game in bios mode it says it can't find it in the D: directory. On my xbox I believe the D directory is the DVD drive.

Could anyone help me figure out what I need to do? And by the way what is HLE mode?

Thank you for your help

Usually the D drive represents the parent directory of the emulator.  So if you installed your emulator in F:\EMULATORS\PCSXBOX\ then D:\ points there.  Your DVDROM is represented by R:\.

My parent directory for the emulator is F. What do I need to do to  get it to search the F drive?

Okay.  I am presently installing pcsxbox onto my xbox.  I will take a look.

This is how I installed the emulator:
e:\emulators\pcsxbox
e:\emulators\pcsxbox\bios
e:\emulators\pcsxbox\emuskins
e:\emulators\pcsxbox\pcxcd
e:\emulators\pcsxbox\saves
e:\emulators\pcsxbox\screenshots
etc.

I put a "scph5552.bin" bios file in the "e:\emulators\pcsxbox\bios" directory.
I put a game (cue/bin files) into the "e:\emulators\pcsxbox\pcxcd" directory.

In the configuration menu I changed the default directory settings as follows:
rom dir = d:\psxcds\*
screenshot dir = d:\screenshots
save game dir = d:\saves
skin dir = d:\emuskins
text file dir = d:\*
Like I said before; drive D: represents the parent directory for the emulators default.xbe file.  In my case,"D:\" is the same thing as "E:\EMULATORS\PCSXBOX\".  Make any sense?

I had some interesting results.  When executing the game in HLE mode it freezes at the emulators loading screen.  In BIOS mode the game runs fine.  I'd check your bios files.  Maybe they are corrupt.  Or you have an incorrectly named file.

Check your settings to these and see if you have something entered incorretly.

Later.

PS: In the pcsxbox emulator, what game are they using to make up the skin?  It looks interesting and I'd like to try it out.

Oh so "D" just means the parent directory whatever it is. I have mine set up EXACTLY like you except instead of "E" it's "F" in my case. I'll take a look at it and see what I can do. As far as skins mine is a Castlevania SOTN skin. I think it's the default one.

When I pick bios or HLE mode on a game it seems to save that setting. How can I switch between the 2? I put the bios scph1001.bin into here F:\emulators\pcsxbox\bio. Then when I try to load a game in bios mode it says it can't load D:\bios\scph1001.bin. It seems that it's in a different directory than emu/pcs.

I looked in the path F:\bios and it had several bios files I don't recognize. They're not Playstation ones. Should I just put the bios files in there?

When you go to select the game press the "black" button to erase your previous settings.  Then when you press "A" to launch to the game it will first go to the game setup screen again.  In some emulators, you can press the "X" button instead of the "A" button to bring up the game setup menu regardless of having any previous saved settings.

Well, this is telling me that it sees the file.  It must be corrupt.  Do a google search for PSX bios files.  You should find something relatively quick.  I am not sure if whether a US / JAPANESE / EUROPEAN bios makes a difference to the game.

Hmm, those might be mod chip bios files.  Did you use on of those auto installer disks to setup your xbox.  I believe some of them created a bios directory.

All playstation bios files should start with "SCPH".  I even found some that say "DTLH".  I don't know what that stands for.

PS: What does the HLE mode stand for / do when loading a PSX game?
