Hmmm, nevermind the above question, I decided to go with V8.  Anyhoo, how do you change the screen resolution? Im trying to play Quest for Glory remake, and it wont start and it gives me an error.  "There was a problem initializing graphics mode 320x200 (Problem: Resolution not supported)"

I only found how to change the video mode from 480p to 720p, etc....

Any help in here?

Hi...I'm a total Noobie to Dosxbox.  All I want to do is learn the basics to using it and setting it up so that it will work, but I can't find a faq or any information I can understand to help me do that.  When I start the program, it takes me to a dos prompt, but I can't do anything other than just stare at it.  What should I do?  do I need to use a keyboard of some sort?  I don't understand hand any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Go to the dosbox official website http://dosbox.source...php?show_news=1 and browse the forums, there's tons of help there.  You should also have an .nfo or readme.txt or something with it that will tell you the basics, it's pretty easy once you learn a few basic commands and Xport's interface makes everything SUPER easy on the Xbox (as opposed to the pc version).

I hope this thread isn't too old, and sorry if it is, but its the only place where I can ask for help!

Anyway I have tried getting Command and Conquer Red Alert the Aftermath to run on DosXbox, but I get the dreaded NO CD FOUND error.

I read the read me, but I couldn't figure out exactly how to help this problem.

Also I do know that the game engine works somewhat ok, because I ran the Command and Conquer DOS demo for a while, though it ended up crashing..

just got malcolm's revenge running on dosbox for xbox after alot ini hacking  biggrin.gif

its the first game i got working.
 all the other gave my problems with the sound install. (7th guest, under a killing moon) gobliiins worked disk version  sleeping.gif
I loved this game so i wanted to get it running on my xbox.

how did i do it.

i first installed it on my pc.

first problem xp will not write the player.ini file
so i made a one from MALCOLM.INI
then i installed it without sound. the player.ini file get updated.
so you will have

[Game]
RunStyle=DOS
[Player]
SoundEnabled=false

and transferd it to my xbox but got a error. FILEDATA.FDT not found or something like that the file is on the cd.

but the xbox says found soundcard gravis. so i used my edit to change player.ini to
[Game]
RunStyle=DOS
[Player]
SoundEnabled=Gravis

transfer player.ini  to xbox.

because it will not find my cd i used a no cd crack
put all data from malcolm (CD) in the malcolm install directory.
gave it a try running main.exe and it worked only no movies need to fix this.
maybe if i burn a copy to a cdrw my dvd will read my cd and i dont need a nocd crack.

but first gone play malcolm abit.

if some need the player file for xbox just make a player.ini in a text edit and place
[Game]
RunStyle=DOS
[Player]
SoundEnabled=false
in it. save it and your done.

Greetz and good luck

ps anyone got 7th guest running?
dosbox is cool just like scumm. love the old games they are better then doom 3 tongue.gif

This emu is great.   I've been playing my Dungeon Hack and Dark Sun I and II on it, and it runs way better than it did on my real 386 dx 33 and my 486 dx2 66 (both with 4, then 8, and then 16 megs of ram...with a 520 megabyte hard drive!)

Okay, no bragging material these days...

Xport, is there any hope of save states in the future?   Or is it just too complicated to get the machine state, or require too much hard disk space?   I'm hopeful, you see...

Dungeon Hack can't be completed in one sitting, and it keeps giving me a, "...couldn't open savegame directory for reading..." and then a prompt when I go to camp and save.

I tried this in Dark Sun, and it seemed to save fine, so that isn't a big issue.   But a romp in DH and I always have to restart from scratch.   It's not life-threatening, but save states or a resolved save system would be cool.

And if I haven't said it enough yet, Xport, you rock.   I love Neogenesis and DosXbox.    In fact, I only really use those two emus.

To all those who want to map the cursor keys - numeric keypad MAY be the answer.   I was reading a lot of faqs and docs about DOSXBOX and somewhere I think it said that the number lock key is mapable.   SO you map the NUMLOCK then map 2, 4, 6 and 8 to buttons.   Shut off number lock and you have your cursor keys, right?    Did anyone try this out?   And no, I don't know how to map NUMLOCK.... smile.gif

I may be mistaken... huh.gif

I'm not sure how this wireless desktop works exactly, but I assume you have one USB plug for both devices?   While this may work in Windows (with help from special drivers) it shouldn't work on your Xbox.

I made a 'home jobby' USB adapter, and instead of cutting off the XBox controller end, I left it on.   So I have a cable that splits in a "Y" out of the controller port, and I can hook up USB devices or a controller, but not both at the same time.   I actually tried it and it will not work.   Controller, yes.   Keyboard, yes.   Both, no.
If I hook up both at the same time, the controller wins over the keyboard.

So it could be a simple thing like it won't work without specific drivers, or it could be two devices on one USB line.   Maybe your keyboard is 'winning' out between the two devices and you should try them separately to see if they work with DOSXBOX at all....

I cannot speak for the Linux Xbox community, and as such I have no idea if it would work in Linux on Xbox or not.

I hope this helps you out.... smile.gif

For those asking (Klownie), yes it is possible to map the arrow keys to the dpad and it is very easy.  However if you're using a keyboard (which if you were then you wouldn't be doing this) it would take functionality from some keys.  I went in the the controller config, then I believe emulator config (at work so I don't have xbox in front of me to clarify).  Find a few keys that you won't be using and select one.  You will be given a list of all of the keyboard's keys that can be binded to the emulator's keys.  Towards the bottom you will find either arrow up, down, left right or cursor up, down, left, right.  Assign those four keys there, then go back into the game controller config.  You should see where you assigned the cursor keys on the left somewhere and you can now assign the dpad buttons to the corresponding keys.  Hope that helps.

OK, I got Fallout to work, but it's unbelievably slow, so scratch that.  I'll wait to see what happens with the 360 (if anything DOES happen).

Still absolutely no luck with keyboard/trackball combo, separate keyboard & mouse , or otherwise.  I'll give up on that, or dig further into it from a hardware viewpoint.

Incidentally, any rumblings about any of this stuff going to the 360?

jameslkight :

All I was actually saying is that I think the combo won't work and you'll need two separate cables - IE : Keyboard in Port 1 and Mouse in Port 2.

I could be wrong but I could never get two devices working on one joystick port.   Unless someone coded it into the emulator specifically.   It would mean something to the effect of Xport programming the emulator to specifically use a combo.

All I would ever do is use two separate joystick ports, with two cables, one for the keyboard and one for the mouse.

guybird :

Thanks!   I haven't seen that, but I have to try it!
