Rubarb is correct.  It was intentionally omitted to decrease the memory footprint.  It's not simply a matter of stopping the music when the game starts playing.  The MP3 engine itself (the code that plays the music) takes up memory.  There are ways to dynamically load and release code (examples of such can be found in MAMEoX) but it's very finicky and hard to get working just right.  The MP3 background music never seemed worth the effort to me - but maybe someone else will feel like doing it.

Or if someone doesn't care about losing the extra memory, they can always recompile the project after commenting out the "#define NO_MP3" line in the dosxbox.cpp file.

I'm not a big PC guy myself, and I've barely played anything newer than X-COM except for Warcraft II and Starcraft, but I don't think there's much of a chance of Fallout running.  Didn't that come out after 2000?

LOL...

No problem then.  I'm sure they'll have it ported by early next week.

QUOTE(Reese Kaine @ Feb 11 2010, 07:57 PM) View Post

I'm ripping out what's left of my hair trying to install the Might & Magic World of Xeen CD, and I'm wondering if I have to install it on the PC first, then FTP the goodies over afterward.

I tried making ISOs, and it's only reading the redbook audio on the discs. Any ideas?

I would defiantly try to install on PC and put the files on the box, this is the process I use for most games.

I'm just wondering how DOSBox has been around on the Box for as many years as it has and I've never seen any t0rrents for XBox configured DOS games.

XPORT's idea for scraping automatic configurations was genius in a way, but serve really no purpose for the DOS emulator.  There are just far too many variables.  One single thing off and a config won't work.

Anybody who has gotten games working in DOSbox and know where all the relavant files are located would benefit the community greatly by getting into contact with me.

DOS happens to be one of my favorite old school gaming systems, but I just have had far too much to do to even look into it other than about 10 games.

Later,

I've found that sometimes if a game wont "install" in dosxbox alot of times you can at least run the install on a pc.  Once the files are extracted you can copy them over to the xbox and then run the config program to get the sound and music working.
