Important Notes
===============

--------
Palettes
--------

Try toggling "Autogenerate NTSC Palette" from the game configuration screen
if you are unhappy with the default palette.

-----------------
Light Gun Support
-----------------

My light gun no longer works for some mysterious reason, so I haven't
tested the light gun functionality.  It *should* work, though.

To use the lightgun, first go to Main Menu -> Configuration ->
Controller Configuration -> Configure Light Gun

From that menu, calibrate the light gun.  You can also choose to have an
on-screen target to help you while playing lightgun games.

When you select a game to play, you are given the configuration options.
(You can also press X to select a game to force re-configuration.)
Be sure to change either Controller 1 or Controller 2 from Gamepad to
Zapper or else you will have no ability to use lightguns in the
game you've selected.

-------------------
Famicom Disk System
-------------------

The WHITE button will Load or Eject the current disk
The BLACK button selects the disk side to use

If you are trying to play an FDS game and it seems to be waiting forever
with some japanese text on the screen, it's probably waiting for you to
flip the disk.  To do so, press WHITE (eject), BLACK (select side), WHITE (load)
and it should continue.

------------
VS UniSystem
------------

Press the Y button to insert a coin.

Here is a good website to see what the DIP switches do in various VS
UniSystem games:

Mednafen's NES core is an extension of FCEUltra.  There should be an increase in compatibility ( which isn't really saying anything since FCEUltra was already nearly 100% compatible with the exception of pirated/hacked versions.)  MednafenX-NES supports VS Unisystem which FCEUltraX does not.  It also has an option for selecting a palette that looks much closer to a real NES.

The only drawback is that MednafenX-NES is slightly slower than FCEUltraX - but you'll never notice this unless you use HQ2X.  It should play pretty much everything at 60fps using any other graphics filter.

this is fantastic work, xport! the only problem is that you left the xbetitle on all three to be "mednafenx", so if we have all 3 (nes, pce, lynx), dashboard that rely on the xbetitle will only show one. i manually edited mine to be "mednx-NES" and so on, but for future releases you might want to check this out

For those that don't know, the history of FCE Ultra goes like this, from the beginning up until now:

1.  FCE
2.  FCE Ultra
3.  Nintencer
4.  Mednafen

In other words, Nintencer is a better FCE Ultra and Mednafen is a better Nintencer.  So without a doubt, Mednafen is a better NES emulator than FCE Ultra.  It is also probably the best NES emulator that can run at full speed on the Xbox.  The best NES emulators, Nintendulator and Nestopia emulate the NES at such a low level that they probably couldn't be made to run at full speed on the Xbox.  The 360, however, is another story.

One of the coolest features of Mednafen is the rewind support, which is very similar to Prince of Persia Sands of Time in that at any time you can press a rewind button to make everything go backwards until you release the button.  This is much nicer than quick-saving.  Of course, you can still quick-save, but with rewind, you only need to quick save every 10 minutes or so.  Everything else can be rewound (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Seriously, check out the rewind feature.  Anybody that has used the Sands of Time, will appreciate it when used with NES games.

I haven't had a chance to test out the emulator, but definitely bind REWIND to the L button and FAST-FORWARD to the R button.  That way you can fast forward through the slow parts of a game, and you can rewind to undo any mistakes you make.

Well, I don't know what some of the options do in the game configuration screen, but I love this emulator already.  Great skin update too!

This is just damn beautiful work.  The skins alone are worth the download.  Your hard work is just amazing in the sense that you do it for everyone else.  So, you've heard it a thousand times, thank you so much for your continued work in the emulation scene.
