Is there a place to get a converted Gamebase Version 5 Database for Vice64X?

Thanks, I'm sure I can use those as well, but I was talking about the 3 files needed so it knows what's in the collection.  The files are: GAMES.DAT, GENRES.DAT, and PUBLISHERS.DAT.

Hi, I'm having problems with the virtual keyboard in Vice64x v7.
It only works the first time Vice64x is started after deleting the E:\SAVES\VICE64X folder. At all other times (even with no configuration changed from default) the virtual keyboard seems to work fine (sound and all) but no keypresses reach the emulator. Keys mapped to the controller behaves the same way.

I'm running it on a ndure-softmodded v1.6 xbox with unleashx as dashboard.

Any help is appreciated.

Never heard of a problem like this before, have you tried deleting the main save save and installing again?

I have now done some more research regarding the virtual keyboard problem.

When run, Vice64x creates a file X:\WIN_POS.VKM that contains the keyboard mappings. this file is normally 7668 bytes long. After a run with broken virtual keyboard behaviour, this file is 0 bytes.

If X:\WIN_POS.VKM file is deleted, then the first run will always have a working virtual keyboard. So there is no need to remove E:\SAVES\VICE64X folder to trigger the working run as I wrote before.

Successive runs will have a non-working virtual keyboard if the gamebase folder contains the too many files. the gamebase5 screenshot pack (announced earlier in this thread) + the matching game images will trigger this situation. The gamebase5 screenshot pack alone will not.

Possibly your hard drive is near full?

Or do you have a hard drive bigger than 250gb (If you don't do it right you can get corruption)?

Hi!

I uploaded the 3 files and the games. Most games are working, some like Turrican 2 are not. The zip files are in place and everything looks ok, but they are not shown in the list.

Does anybody have the same problem?

Ok, i never saw it was x.

That, and that it's only 250, means it can't be what i said.

Another suggestion though, the x partition is used as a cache type of thing for varios games and apps, sometimes it may not be cleared, if an app want's to write anything to it when it's full, it'd cause something like what you describe.

That may be it, but the X-partition is almost empty in the situations I have seen this problem.

My guess is that my gamebase dir triggers some situation within vice64x that makes it forget to close the X:\WIN_POS.VKM file properly (or makes the close operation fail or something like that).

The story so far:

The bad virtual keyboard is triggered by the existance of a zero sized file X:\WIN_POS.VKM. This happens also if the X-partition is otherwise empty.

If the file doesn't exist then the virtual keyboard will work, regardless of the content of the gamebase dir.

This file is generated by running vice64x. Normally it should have a size of 7668 bytes but will be zero sized if the gamebase dir in the vice64x dir is totally empty or contains too many files (gambase5 screenshot + games).

Please note that a clean install (it has some sample files in it's gambase dir) will work when run repeatedly since it will write the WIN_POS.VKM file with the correct size.

The only way to make the virtual keyboard work for me (with gamebase 5 data) is to remove the (zero sized) WIN_POS.VKM file from the X-partition before every launch of vice64x.

I`m glad that the "stutter" has been detected by more people now; I mentioned it around the time vicex v7 was released. But only got one reply at the time. In my case the stutter also exists if i put my xbox in ntsc mode, so that doesn`t solve it for me.
Also I mentioned at the time that it crashes so now an then, especially when tangling with the background playlist.

Not much hoping, but i hope that it will be fixed some time, Still playing c64 a lot, and SiD sound is simply very briljant! (In a 80s kind of way)

Hey Guys!

I need help definitely...
I am really inclined to taste this emulator after having hours of fun with WinUAEX but
as much as I try I am not able to run *ANY* games. I did download a bunch of ZIPED files
from some place in the web and Vice64x opens them perfectly.

It show the C64 basic thing, the run command, the game gets loaded but here I get the problem.
After the load 100% of the games I tried present a "SCENE SCREEN" with cracker information,
trainer options and so on. And in ALL cases I need to press something to really start a game.

Somtimes it is RUN/STOP command.
Sometimes it is SPACE BAR.
Sometimes I need to answer a question with Y/N (unlimited lives, unlimited ammo, etc etc)

But in ALL cases, NONE of my input works!
I bring to the screen the VIRTUAL KEYBOARD and it does not work.
I tried to map things like RUN STOP to BACK BUTTON, tried to map SPACE to X, Y, A...
Tried to swap joysticks... nothing.

What am I doing wrong?
Looks like the virtual keyboard is broken.

Mr. Retroplay?
Madmab?
RessurrectionX?
Xport?
Anyone?
