the 128 shouldn't be the problem, but try a normal xbox and see if it works there. someone's gotta have one, right?

there are tons of reasons why it could lock up. maybe you have too many songs being introduced at once. i know that i can't seem to throw in more than two "mixes" at a time when i have a new HDD. talk about what things are in your stepmania folder. animations, number of songs, characters, etc.

FuzzyLogic: You could also try creating those two missing files by copying one of the other png files (say ScreenSelectMusic stage 6.png) and naming it stage 7 and 8.

I too am having a problem with Stepmaniax.
After months of trying different things, I finally just redownloaded the archive, adn installed it fresh, and it solved my problems.
and replaced them with completely new ones.

Only one of my Dance Mats is working with Stepmaniax. Only one of them is mapped I suppose. Is there a way around this? I live in a dorm with many people who love DDR, and I wopuld love for Stepmaniax to be working two at a time.

Has anyone had any success in adding characters to stepmaniax?  I found some to install online, and put them in, but it doesn't apply the textures.  Its just a big white ghost bobbing around.

Is there a fileformat other than .bmp that the textures need to be converted to?  I will check the stepmania changlog to see what they've changed in the character section since alpha 7, but if someone else has got this working and knows how to fix it, it'd be a big help.

Thanks.

Edit:

I tried changing the images to png and jpg, and changing the ini and txt files to reflect the filename changes, but the issue persists.

Any help would be fantastic!

characters are fine. they do work as bmp's. you probably need the bones files. google'll probably work.

Weird.  I have the bones files.

Let me know if I've got it setup right, if you may.  I'd really like to get these working.

I just got the smzip files, installed them on the PC, and copied the Characters folder over to the xbox, then enabled characters.

My characters folder:

http://www.d8i.com/Characters.txt

Thanks again, and thanks for your reply.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, they seem to work fine on the PC.

for some reason, every single character folder you have has a space or a "." in the name. i have 49 character folders, and they're all fine except for some glitched up ulala character i need to fix. pick one character folder and fix its name. take the others until you find out if that's the problem.

i don't have this file. probably doesn't matter...."Characters\default\CVS\Tag"

ok, ignore all that. seems like it's the model.txt files. perhaps the folders you have are too new to work on a version this outdated. sucks, but you'll have to find older characters for now.

[Edit] yes, the model.txt files in your folders use a "vram" bmp sheet. it has all the color character parts on it, and i guess the vram sheet is cut up where it's needed when the new stepmania accesses it. the older character folders (like mine) don't do this. it does it the hard way. it seems easier to program, but it's totally useless for this port.

Can someone tell me if the USB adapters that work for the computer version, such as the EMS PS2 to USB adapter with two Playstation 2 ports, will be easily compatible with SMX? If I get a modded Xbox with a USB port or two in the back, can I just plug in my current PS2 to USB adapter or do I have to go buy some PS2 to Xbox controller adapters?

I don't think you'd be able to plug them into a USB port onto the xbox, but maybe drivers to support USB pads could be made, I don't have enough knowledge to know what the process is for that.

but you can find a list of compatible PS2 to USB converters on the stepmania website.

Is there any particular reason why they wouldn't work? It's one of the most highly recommended adapters for SM on the PC, which is why I got it. It works with every version of DWI or SM I've tried it with to date, so is there any reason why it wouldn;t work in the USB port? I'm looking for the cheap solution to hook dance pads to my Xbox, see, and I already use the adapter for my computer with SM....so will I absoutely have to buy PS2 to Xbox converters??
