Fceultrax Current Discussion
« on: August 28, 2004, 11:10:00 AM »

This is the main discussion thread for the most recent version of FCEUltraX.

Use this thread to do any of the following:

Ask a question about FCEUltraX
Report a bug about FCEUltraX
Submit a feature request for FCEUltraX

Do not use this thread to post about projects other than FCEUltraX.
Do not post questions/bug reports/feature requests without first reading the FAQs for FCEUltraX.
Do not ask where these projects can be downloaded.

Rule violators will get one warning. After that, you will be temporarily or permanently banned depending on the situation.  I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but it has taken me a cumulatively long time to write the FAQs for these projects.  If you cannot do me the courtesy of taking the time to read them, then I do not want you posting here.

This thread will be pruned/cleaned periodically.  If you had a question in this thread and it is now gone, then it was either in violation of the rules or your answer can now be found in the FAQs section.

Heya, Xport. I'm rather glad you now have your own separate forum, so that combing through the Emulators section just to find people who want to talk to you is now a thing of the past. I do have a question for you, regarding FCEUltra and the lightgun support.

Just as MAMEoX once had difficulty with dark zones, so does FCEUltra. Well, maybe. You see, I wanted to ask you if you had problems with dark zones and/or certain colors when trying to target. Haven't been able to figure out if it's my model of gun (X-Gunner Mark II, the Cheapass special) or the state of the lightgun engine. I must say, after your recent MameOX lightgun upgrade, I have had no problems with calibration or keeping focus, whereas whilst playing Gotcha! on NES, The cursor would veer right at the sight of orange, and would be completely irratic in darkness ("Adventures of Bayou Billy," as an example).

The reason for this post was my general curiousity as to whether or not we were gonna see a lightgun upgrade for FCEUltraX next. If not, that's entirely up to you, I suppose. Perhaps you have some other upgrade in mind, like some sort of VR thing where we jump into the game like some sort of twisted Captain N plotline. I learn not to doubt the power of the Xport.

Keep the peace.

I have not heard of any problems people were having with light guns in FCEUltraX in the most recent version.  I have not tried those games you mentioned, but I'll get around to it at some point.

Just upgraded from ver 15 to ver 16, and tested the lightgun. Except for being able to change the color of the crosshair in the targeting screen, not much has changed. Still cannot hit reliably in Gotcha! (not that this is my favorite game... but it was a test subject), and Bayou Billy has improved slightly.

Again, MAMEoX works great, so I'm sure that fine-tuning in spare time will fix it. I have faith in you.

I would like to request two things.

1. Reset Function

2. When you exit a game from your favorites section, it should go back to the game you exited, not to the beginning of your favorites list.

I've noticed #2 in your latest xboyadvance release. Are you planning on adding these features to this emu, or maybe, to all of your other classic emulators?
And if not, why? Thank You.

I would also like a reset function. Could you also release the newest version of this emulator from the PC version, version 0.98.12?

here's the source

first i would like to say that xport, this is awesome, your finally taking requests  biggrin.gif  love.gif

these are things i would like to see, they kind of speak for all your emulators though

all the things that infedelity said and a flicker filter

actaully i could care less about the flicker filter but it would be nice to have for the other people that actaully like it

and definatley could you please, please get around to porting the latest fce ultra thats been out for awhile, there are a whole bunch of games that the version thats out already doesn't support maps for alot of the games ex. donkey kong country 4

these are mostle hacks

but again this forum is awesome  cool.gif  smile.gif
good luck xport  beerchug.gif

Reading your notes, I understand that you'd probably have to "start from scratch", but this is an emulator definitely worthy of being brought up to speed with it's PC cousin.  Besides being able to play more "hacks", the sound is massively improved (listen to the battle music in FF3j on the current Xbox version and then compare it to the PC) MMC5 fixes that will enable Just Breed to play correctly (works now but is buggy - you gain levels after every battle, which is not the way the game is supposed to work - this has been duplicated on the equivalent PC port, but works fine on the latest source) I'm sure there are a few other good reasons, and having the GUI brought up to the level of your latest emulators would be much appreciated.  Since you probably have bigger and more interesting things being worked on at the moment, maybe you could save this until there's a .99 release of FCEUltra, if you ever do get around to updating.  Great job in any case!

I agree that it is worthwhile to have the Xbox FCE Ultra brought up to date with the PC FCE Ultra: huge sound improvements, additional mapper support, bug fixes, and emulation accuracy improvements.  It is easily one of the best, most accurate console emulators EVER!  Most other emulators don't even try to obtain the level of emulation accuracy that FCE Ultra has.

This problem is compounded with the fact that the current Xbox FCE Ultra has some technical benefits over the PC version, especially with regards to ultra-smooth, flickerless, shearless, tearless scrolling and graphics.

So I guess people want the best of both worlds, Xodnizel's recent improvements and XPort's improvements.

On another note, what about a flicker filter option in the XPort FCE Ultra?
Also, is it theoretically possible to add USB HID game controller support to homebrew XBOX software?  That would let people use the recently made NES to USB adapters and modifications:
http://www.sealiecom....com/retrozone/

Using the real NES controller has advantages as the XBOX controllers have a D-pad in which it is far to easy to accidentally hit the diagonals when you intended to hit a pure left, right, up, or down motion on the D-pad.  In Super Mario Bros, for example, this causes problems with crouching and sliding.  Diagonal down doesn't result in a crouch.  This typically isn't a problem with NES and SNES style D-pads.

Anyway, Xport, thanks for the great software... I am going to keep my fingures crossed hoping that we all someday see "the best of both worlds".

There were a few things that I was hoping would get implemented, such as a native resolution of the NES (or close to it) so it's not blurry or scaled (I think it should also line up on the screen like a real NES, no stretching or moving... maybe a "native" mode in the scaling options is needed).

And also there is a need of a palette that is closer to what a real NES outputs (I realise you say you haven't implemented a "custom" palette feature in your faq... but, even if you didn't allow for a custom pallete file like the PC version does, at least replace the one you use). IMBNes already does both of those things, and it looks quite nice on a TV (s-video NES!)... even if IMBNes lacks a lot of features/mappers FCEUltra has. Sadly, not even NesterDC for Dreamcast does these things, either. It's just, as a side by side comparison... the colours look nothing like a real NES, and it's not as clear, either... (even with simple2x)...  Just take a look at SMB, the colour is way off.  I just thought, since the NES ran off the TV, it could be easier to closely imitate on another system that runs off a TV.

There were a handful of palette files on the net that tried to be as close as possible to the real NTSC NES... but only one, I noticed, was the most accurate. My main computer is down at the moment, so I can't pull it off my hardrive or tell you which one it was.

Anyways, just a thought.

Just a note, the xbox can not create the same native resolution as a NES.  I think the lowest it can go is 640x480 (anybody?).

But...  If you resize your screen and pay attention to the horizontal/vertical resolutions... Wala!  Perfect aspect ratio.

Which makes me think.  Maybe a neat feature (for resizing screens) would be a "keep apect ratio" option.

Hi Xport, great emu!

Is there anything in the options for the emu that will show the full pitch for soccer and badminton. They're fully playable but was just wondering if theres anything I can set to fix them.

If not, I'll gladly wait until the next release.

Thanks
