Can You Play Vcd/svcd Off A Pc Drive Hooked To Xbx
« on: April 28, 2003, 08:49:00 AM »

I just hooked up my pc dvd drive to xbox in hopes i can play vcd and svcd's through my pc drive cause they are all on cd-r's.

But i put one in and nothing played when i started the media player. Is there a way for me to get it to play them, or autoboot this program if drive detects vcd/svcd discs. Of do i have to put the movies on the HD? If so i'd have to find a way for boxplorer to recognize my pc dvd drive and not just the xbox one.

just put in the (s)vcd, then goto my videos
then browse the dvd drive.
then open the mpeg file

its not hard
you just need to get off your lazy ass and READ.

BTW using SEARCH is helpful also.

But I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

I did, and haven't found any info that can help.

Plus if you READ in my message, i say that boxplorer doesn't recognize my pc dvd drive i installed for the 2nd drive so i can play cd-r's. I'm not trying to play them in the original xbox drive. Cause there are topics out there for that. all my movies are on cd-r. And boxplorer only recognizes my xbox drive. Thus it's prob. the reason why the media player ain't searching my pc drive. Games boot fine, but movies won't play. When i load media player up, nothing happens when i hit A to load movie.

I found no topics about playing movies on a 2nd dvd drive.

Ok, after many times of nothing working with my cd-r's/vcd's i stuck in a dvd-r and that displayed on the D drive.

So now i know it is just cd-r's. I've tried cd's with just data on it, and cd's burned as vcd's and nothing shows. Is there some setting or something with boxplorer that needs changing or something for cd-r's to appear like dvd-r's do?

I don't normally flame like this but shameless bill, you are a complete and utter moron.

Not only can the xbox access cdr's (depending on your drive, the samsung drive shipped in many xbox's now can access pretty much any media), but the poster has made it perfectly plain that he has followed the guides and added an extra pc drive to his xbox and therefore should be able to use any media.

So before you go calling someone a lazy beeeaatch for not reading up perhaps you should try actually READING the thread properly!

I mean bloody hell he even states in the topic title that he's hooked up a *PC* drive to his xbox!

Yes, exactly. I know the xbox drive can't read cd-r's.

I want to know why cd-r's might be having trouble in a normal PC DVD DRIVE. It has worked just fine in my pc, but the cd's aren't displayed in boxplorer. When i hit start to select the drive D, it says nothing for the MB and shows nothing when selected.

DVD-r's show, but not cd-r's. And i know my drive can read them so i thought maybe it's some setting i need changed or something.

I just now tried xbcopy and it said the drive appeared empty and wouldn't copy the cd to the HD.

So it seems multiple programs don't recognize cd-r's. I just don't get it because cd-r's work perfectly when the pc dvd drive is in the computer.

your xbox DVD should still be connected via the yellow wires that provide power. Then if that still doesn't work, try putting in an original xbox game on the xbox drive while putting the cdr on the PC drive

So it seems multiple programs don't recognize cd-r's.

This is correct, most programs will not recognise a disc that is in ISO9660 format. So don't worry about that.

XBMP should be able to play them, though, if you select the ISO9660 option.

However, I have several discs that, although they are recognised by XBMP, they don't play properly. Movies start somewhere in the middle, or don't play at all (drive spinning/accessing, but blank screen.) So there is definately something up with this somewhere.

And by the way, I also have a PC drive hooked up.

In my opinion, the movie option of XBMP sucks..

I want to be able to play standard avi's, mpegs.. Not just divx..

Anyways.. Maybe I'm expecting too much.

Cord was still connected, but i don't have an original xbox game so i tried a dvd instead. And when i got to boxplorer, it still showed nothing. For dvd-r's it'd show the total space a disc took up, but not with the cd-r's because it didn't recognize them. Maybe it's a problem with something i got.

Version are boxplorer096beta
xbcopy0025 also don't recognize the cd-r.

How do you set it up for ISO9660 then?

I don't think it worked how i had it. When i start the progeram i see:

C:
D:
D:
E:
F:

There are 2 D's but nothing shows when i select either making me think i might not have entered something right. Here's a part out of the config i made, maybe i forgot something. And the videos section you see below don't seem to show up which is where i have that iso option. I just copied it from a premade config that was an example so i thought it'd work.

<- if you're running from HDD you should configure these two settings ->

 D:,Cdrom0
 E:,Harddisk0Partition1
 F:,Harddisk0Partition6
