Xbmc Easy File Transfers?
« on: December 12, 2007, 12:38:00 PM »

I'm going to give an XBMC to a family member for Christmas.  I've bought a larger HD for the xbox and plan to install it in the next week or so.  So they will have plenty of room on the Xbox.

They aren't the most technical people in the world and I want to make it as simple as possible for them to use it.  But I'd also like to have them be able to add their own content for music and movies.  Is there a alternate way to get content to the XBMC other than FTP?  I've alway done it that way and assumed it is the only way.  Am I correct?

Thanks,

<Matt

You could set them up with a NAS and just direct all of the folders on the Xbox to view the NAS. Then they could hit it anywhere from a friendly interface.

Just a thought.

I thought of the NAS route, and I'm not ruling it out.  But if there was another way I didn't think of I was trying to find it.

Samba shares hmm.  Where would I do this?  In XBMC or on a pc? Right now they only have a laptop and a wireless access point.

You could always just burn to DVD-R/W and copy from XBMC's FileManager.

Check here for more ideas:

Smokyjoe, actually the 1st replay in the link lists a great program for this NetDrive.  Its exactly what I was looking for, it maps the FTP path to a drive letter in Windows.  So turn the XBMC on, go into windows and now you have a drive mapped to you XBMC where you can copy files to.

Thanks!!

I agree, making a shared folder or drive on the computer and moving files to it is the easiest/fastest way, only downside is that the computer has to be on and if the xbox is far from the computers then you need a long network cable and hopefully you can hide it.
