Help! Lost All Files On Xbox
« on: December 11, 2007, 01:46:00 PM »

Hope I've posted this in the right place.

I need urgent help, Was watching a video on my xbox thru latest XBMC.

And when it had finished, all my files had gone, everything my whole life was on it when it comes to media.

The size of the disc is showing as if the files were still there,

I've also looked via ftp on my PC, still no files.

I've tried booting another dash, but still nothing.

Is there anyway of hooking the disc up directly to PC and view in windows.

Or have I lost everything.

Please Help

A Very Distraught Bucky

Im guessing you probably have a pretty big hdd with lots of media on it, and only on the F partition? This is a common problem, your hdd needs to be formatted in 32k clusters using xbpartitioner. search google.

And if this is the case than the best thing to do is ftp into your xbox and salvage any files you can the rest is history. Unortunately.

but then again this may not be your problem, I always thought this happened as someone tried to add a file to the hdd when it went over the limit not after playing a video....

but ya just search google man.

Gutted, I was FTPing stuff as well at the time.

And yes I have a 500gig, and its all on the F drive.

Guess I will have to split it in 2, I'm gutted as everythings gone.

Is there nothing at all that can be done to restore it.

Sorry man, nope. but like I said, ftp into it to see if anything is still viable.

But if it makes you feel any better I've learned this from experience.

Hope this is correct, if i'm wrong please let me know.

PS, Copied my music and vids to mates xbox about a month ago, so only lost a little.

Thank again.

I believe this is ok, i forget the limit with 32k clusters but I think this is ok, im sure you've been looking around, if it says its ok than its ok... all i know is that i have a 320 gb hdd and its all on one partition. anyhow, good to know you didn't completely lose it all.

Limit with 16kb clusters = 256gb.
Limit with 32kb clusters = 512gb.

I had a similar problem a while ago but was able to recover most of my data by unlocking the drive and using a data recovery program on my pc, only thing was there were no file names just numbers so you'd have to rename them your self.

Hello All,

I am a totally newbie to modded XBox... Had a guy do it for me...everything was working fine until I went over the 256GB limit (I have a 500GB drive)... Now I cannot see any of the data, but the F: drive size indicates that the data is still there...

I assume it is the same issue with the 16 vs 32KB clustering.

What I would like someone to do is give me a step by step instruction process of how to either (a) recover the data - i.e. Do I need to pull the HDD out of my XBox to try and recover the files or can it be done remotely?  ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) once the data is recovered or discovered to be unrecoverable, how do I reformat the F: drive to have 32KB clusters?  I don't want to start from scratch if at all possible....

Any advice/help would be much appreciated.
